Does anyone know how to get in the game hauling new cars out of the port in Houston? I don't think USAL or Hansen is hauling them I've seen the cars on independent carrier so I would like to get in the game.

On new cars, spot buy moves come straight from the manufacturers. Sometimes to another carrier, sometimes to a broker. Take a peek on Central and see if somebody is offering a bunch of loads out of there.

Almost right. Most Mfg's actually hire a 3pl company (GM uses Ryder) to move not only auto parts, but the new vehicles too. Ryder tosses out a bid, and whoever wins the bid moves the vehicles out of that plant for the life of the contract. The contract tends to be a multi-year one.
GM Flint it's Jack Cooper. Now if Jack Cooper can't move the vehicles because of capacity issues then Ryder will do single runs, although I really don't know how they handle that. -
Close, but no cigar, at least not at Ford. While the 3PL is somewhat involved in the process, the contact is directly with the manufacturer. Spot buys are a little different, the 3PL asks for spot bids when volume demands aren't being met by the contracted carrier, then goes to Ford for approval. But that contract is also with Ford, not the 3PL. The 3PL, UPSA in this case, manages the contract for Ford.
At FCA, I'm not sure how the haulaway contract is setup (we never had a ramp contract with them,) but spot buys are handled the same as Ford.

What would not surprise me, again my experience is GM, is Ryder does the bidding process, but GM does have the final say. Basically the 3pl does the grunt work, but with close oversight from GM. I've never done the actual contract work, just talking to the people that does.Hammer166 Thanks this.

United road jack key proficient mccollister are some of the names that pull out of houston. Seems to be mostly audi and vw in there with porsches bentleys lambos sprinkled in. Jack key has the audi vw coming back east across 10. Last i heard united road had them going up into the midwest

VW out of Houston, they used to give to anyone willing to take them for rail costs. I know the guy who got the contract out of Minneapolis, and his volume is a fraction of what they told him it was going to be, because a lot the trucks hauling Mexican Freight south haul vw's back North when they can't find anything else.

I have never seen rates out of Houston port as a sub worth pursuing. I picked up audis there one time.

Thanks guys, I'm just curious I will do some more checking. It is right that VW imported from Europe are at this port, not sure what the pay is perhaps not worth the trouble.
