HazMat renewal, but relocating

    I'm getting ready to relocate to a different state (dates pending HR hapsidaps). I'm coming up on my HazMat renewal, but I wanted to know if I have to go through the whole process again once I switch my license to the next state, or if what I have simply transfers to the new CDL. The same background check should apply, right? Or do I need to do that all over again, too?

    I moved from MI to ND last year. Had a fresh HAZMAT in MI. I had to take the written test at the ND DMV for my Hazmat endorsement. The rest of my Endorsements transfered.

    Your background check is good for 5 years. So as long as your new state CDL expires before the background check, you shouldn't have to get another background check.

    But it depends on the state when I transferred mine from Texas, I had to do the whole background check, fingerprinting and take the test again.
    But the TSA today instructed the states to extend all the hazmat endorsements for 180 days. So you have more time on your haz than you thought.

    Get on that new fangled thing called the intranet and look up the state your going to. I’m pretty sure most states just transfer it over. And we all can bet there is a fee to go along with it.

    BlueShrimp is correct.. Hazmat fingerprint is good for 5 years.. Long as theres 4 years available left in time on fingerprints that part should transfer easily.. I moved from AZ to MI 4 months ago and only thing I had to do was the hazmat test again in Michigan.. All other endorsements (tanker, double/triples, etc) all transfered no issues
