When you are training, you'll be on someone elses truck, so no you can't take the truck home during training. As far as after training, once you've been assigned your own truck, some companies will let you take the truck home, some will not.
As for "who you should train with", that really depends on what you want from a company. Although training policies are important, don't just rely on that when choosing a company. There are other issues more important than that to consider: pay rates, milage rates (practical, hhg, etc.), health care, Hometime, driver treatment, and the list goes on. Look at the companies as a whole program and what they can do for you and if it will be a good fit for you personally.
That's my opinion, anyway.rino1571 Thanks this. -
Some companies allow you take your truck home, providing you have a safe secure location (the process to qualify often is extensive), but most require you use their terminal or drop lot and how close you are to this can be a qualifier for employment. While your training, you will be in another persons truck, if you are allowed home time during training(some dont, some do), your trainer will just drop you close to your home (truck stop) or a close terminal where he can drop you off and he heads home. I was lucky, my trainer lived close to me, but another guy from my class spent his 8 weeks with his trainer, and spent a couple long week ends in the truck at a truck stop close to his trainers home. Some companies will provide a hotel, they all have different policies.
