Im looking to import a '96 Freightliner from Canada to the US. It has all conforming labels present for customs, but I need to hire a broker to do it, no other option according to CBP. Any idea what this costs to have a customs broker do this transaction? Im sure someone here knows someone who may have recently done this...

Few years back I bought a trailer imported from Canada first time to be titled in US. I had to pay FET.
-
Where was it made?
If it was made in the us, then no tariffs are applied.
You may have to pay FET. -
Brokers fees are reasonable, $75-$200. Duties , taxes and excise fees aren’t bad either.
Brought a $75 car from Florida up into Canada once, it had air conditioning. Canada had a $150 excise tax on air conditioning. -
This truck was built at the Freightliner plant in NC, but it has been a Canadian truck since new. I got a quote yesterday for $401...does this seem right?
blacklabel Thanks this. -
I bought westernstar from canada in 2018.it was built in the usa.so i didn’t pay any extra tax.i cost me $500 usd to import it. Even though it was built in the usa i had to drop the truck off at brokers secured facility for 30 days so it could become usa compliance.it made no sense but it was part of the process.i used Can Am Auto Importers in buffalo ny.call them and ask for rex.( 1-800-691-3810) he’ll explain you the whole process!!
FoolsErrand and uncleal13 Thank this. -
You don't pay duty on any American made vehicle. As mentioned you have to go through an import vehicle broker to get it US spec'd for a few trucks.
I have bought a lot of cars from Canada and never had to deal with any broker, the only hassle I had was with a pickup truck and the km speedometer when it was inspected for a title. -
Anyone have any experience with gamache trucks? They seem to be a canadian truck company with a site in NY to get them in.

You wanting to bring it back will be liable for the FET on the used purchase price.
