IM(limited)O this is a good idea. Last year when my brother went thru training with another company, that is exactly what happened to him. He stated it was a good thing since his original trainer was questionable at best. This wasn't a company policy, but due to the company pulling the 1st trainer for a variety of reasons.

1 year later and he has moved on to a slightly better company and says he's still using stuff he learned from his 2nd trainer, and only uses the 1st trainer as an example of not how to do things. I guess you could call that a balanced learning experience.

Part 2 is where I'm sure I'd still be asking questions so I wouldn't be kicking myself later for not asking.

My first big haul when I was a trailer sailor in the navy, I was teamed up with one of our reservists, a professional driver, for a 1000mi run. Our little ole daycab with a 50ft flatbed and it's 20T load would max out at 50mph downhill on ice with a tailwind, so I spent the whole time asking questions. On the return trip he was quizzing me the whole time. When we got back he told our dispatcher "now he's qualified... but he still don't know s#!t."

What does that have to do with anything? IDK.... them sailors got a story for anything.

If you are sitting waiting for a load you have to do a check call every day on the qualcom, and check for messages regularly to watch for loads that may come up.
If you are sitting on a load waiting to deliver, then there is less checking messages and more time to go do what you want.
But you should not be driving the truck in this time. Because if you are stopped even if you have not used very many hours, you may as well take the restart.

So since you cannot drive you have 2 options, you can walk or take a cab.
If you are at a truck stop you will most likely have a ways to walk to get to anything. Since most towns like the truck stops away from the community.

Some Citys are not really trucker friendly with possitioning of the stops. Land in the city is way to expencive for anyone to afford a really big parking lot just to put truckers in.
So like Chicago, you will not find a truckstop within 20 miles, and actually I think it is more, the one that was there to the best of my knowlege is gone. There are rest areas off the highway but these have very limited parking.

Most citys are like this though. You normally will not find a truckstop within 10-15 miles of the city. If so they are small and or not very nice places to be. The nice truck stops are not near much of anything. Window shop in a field lol.

Hey gang got my CDL last Thursday and been sitting ever since waiting for a trainer. Is there anybody out there that can pick me up as a student down here in fontana. It's getting unberibly boring. One person can only watch so much tv and walk around with nothing to do. I'm eager to get started.
