Indeed, and this has been going on since I was in school 17 years ago. They've already been dragged into court for strip searching young girls. Another student was hit with a taser for using his cell phone in the hallway. Another little boy was jailed for having a gun shaped piece of paper on the playground. Yet another child was dragged off for drawing a crude laser gun. I could go on and on and not cover them all.

I once got a look at a certain couple of file drawers full of various items in a teachers office that she had confiscated from students. She never gave them back.

What happen to the rights of the parents? Anymore its like us parents lose our rights when our kids walk thru the doors of the school.

Maybe if kids didn't abuse the privilege of having a cell phone in school, these policies would not be necessary?

Regardless, I don't think kids need cell phones at school. I knew my kids' schedules and was prepared to provide transportation when needed. (The rest of the time they rode the bus.) And as for forgetting homework or gym clothes? Sorry, Charlie. You knew the assignment was due and it was YOUR responsibility to turn it in. Not mine. Turn it in late, suffer the consequences, and next time maybe you'll remember.

seeing that i am of a younger generation postin on here, when i was in school, not very long ago at all, they had a strict no cell phone policy. however, unless u were sitting in class or walking down the hall way they did not bother you much about it,
when entering school we had to walk through metel detectors, and put all of our bags, jackets and sweatshirts through the x-ray. if they found ur phone, they took, called mom n dad, and they had to come and pick it up. then they changed it, if u were caught with phone, school took it, and would not give it back till the end of the school year... if u ask me, thats wrong, as ur kids how often they see there teachers on the phone, and school directors. and how many school officals walk around with the phone on their hip. if they dont want kids to have phones, the teachers and all school officals should be banned from having any phone in sight...
i was in 11th grade, asked my teacher why she was on the phone, she said her daughter was leaving school early cause she was sick, and wanted to call her and let her no thats shed be home. its wrong...
however, when i transferd school for senior year, my new school was very strict on cell phones. had mine taken weekly, my dad got sick of going down to get it for me.
butttttttttttt i could walk right into school, throught the metel detectors and x-rays with my smokes and my lighter, and was told to have a good day....?

schools are private property. anything your bring on to campus is subject to a search. they don't need to have consent. if you don't like it, look into home schooling.

One of the city high schools by where I live has been having a bunch of protest over a dress code recently. The school has banned any clothing that has a logo on it or a picture, design whatever. Only plain clothing with no writing. It is also very vague on certain items such as it states that females may not wear shirts with too low a cut neck line. It doesn't say no cleavage or determine what is too low. The first day of school over 200 kids were suspended for the dress policy. Some of them include such things as untied shoes, a small nike swoosh symbol on a pair of shorts etc..... A lady that works with my mom her daughter had a t-shirt on that barely showed her collarbone ( no cleavage showing or anything ) and she got suspended. This all stemmed from a report that one of the local news reporters did calling the school a drop out factory. So instead of addressing the real problem they said well lets make a dress code to draw everyones attention off the fact that we don't know how to teach our students. The day after this all happened we had over 500 parents trying to enroll their kids at the county school where my kids attend because we have no such crap to deal with. Since this school year began 4 weeks ago they have suspended over 500 kids for the dress code.

Schools are not private property hence the name public schools. And even if your on private property you still have constitutional rights. Just because your on private property doesn't mean constitutional rights and laws no longer apply.

tough crap. it'll keep happening. the only people who complain the most about search and seizure are the ones who have something to hide. yeah, what the kid got busted for was quite lame. however, each school district has their set of rules. if you don't want to follow them. go elsewhere. it's that simple.

i disagree... its not that simple. almost every school has their own stupid laws and ruels anymore. u can listen to it all on talk radio about the dumb laws schools are working with this year.
how about the 1st grader on the last day of school, gave his teacher a hug, and his head touched her chest area { (o)(o) } and the teacher had the toddler arrested for sexual harrasment. come on!! he's 5? he dont no whats right or wrong in that sence, and if u had seen the teacher, its no supprise he toucher here in that are, they were huge, along with her rather large body... thats bs.,

private life? no such thing in this country anymore. the govmt is in every bit of private thing we do anymore.
banning kids from wearing shirts with stripes and designs on them?
i can understand the name brand cloths, but lines, and different colors? they say its gang related??? bs! half the kids entering their fist years of school have no clue what a gang is... maybe they should try putting a ban on Family Guy that comes on at night, on local tv. they should put educated shows on for the kids, and leave family guy for people old enough to understand what they are talking about.

when i was in high school, which was an agriculture school, we had to walk through metel detecters, and put our things through an x-ray, before we could even enter the building, had to swipe our school ID through the computer system. i assume they were looking for weapons of all kinds im sure, which was fine, but not at my school.
some of our classes included using huge butcher knives, chain saws, hand saws, big arse hooks, operating lawn equipment with huge blades on them. driving big john deers, with the long pointy pole on them for lifting the big rolls of hay, grinders, feeders, it was crazy, they supplied all the deadly tools for us!!! we didnt need to bring anything, always made everyone wonder why they made us walk through the metel detecs and x-ray...
