Tsk. Not the sound created by air pressure on our ear drums then converted to electrical impulses for our pea brains to generate something we can understand. Being deaf what I hate is the bone conduction test. Bypass all that eardrum crap. You can if it's big enough turn your skull into a perfect speaker almost.
NASA is probably using a different ear, xray detector, similar to the geiger counter on earth. We cannot hear or see radiation (Unless its extreme as happened at Chernobyl the first night as a river of blue flying into the sky, if you saw that while alive you are a dead man already.)
We must have a variety of instruments that listen for different signals and convert that by computer power to a sound we can understand. We do the same thing for electronic warfare as a fighter pilot flies across a enemy sky and gets painted by a enemy air defense creating music that has meaning to him. Otherwise he would be dumb until the missile flew into his engine.
In Hearing aids I possess small coils. Telecoils is what they are. Anything that radiates above or below human hearing range in a electronic signal gets captrued and converted to something I can use. Telephone is one example. Store entry security rings inside the building is another. That hum means you just got scanned for anti theft devices. Sometimes police instruments or other situations in electronics depending on what they are (Microwaves particularly) and so on.
My very favorite use of the telecoils was to listen to the points firing the old sparkplugs on my Ford 351 V8. As long the sound of all those plugs are in order and singing the same music I know the points and wires and so on (Timing order) is in order. When one of them goes bad or something else messes up on those old engines I hear the difference. It interferes with the overall music. And calls for attention to find and replace the offending wire, points or plug.

Van Allen himself called the deniers idiots. The Apollo missions traveled through it at such a speed that they were out in a few minutes. The ISS doesn't fly that high either. So what's the problem with the Van Allen belt again?
"A person in the cabin of a space shuttle in a circular equatorial orbit in the most intense region of the inner radiation belt, at an altitude of about 1000 miles, would be subjected to a fatal dosage of radiation in about one week.
However, the outbound and inbound trajectories of the Apollo spacecraft cut through the outer portions of the inner belt and because of their high speed spent only about 15 minutes in traversing the region and less than 2 hours in traversing the much less penetrating radiation in the outer radiation belt. The resulting radiation exposure for the round trip was less than 1% of a fatal dosage - a very minor risk among the far greater other risks of such flights. I made such estimates in the early 1960s and so informed NASA engineers who were planning the Apollo flights. These estimates are still reliable."Cat sdp Thanks this. -
Why bother reading the article, when people can spew their conspiracy theories!
The tin foil hat wearers luv a good conspiracy.
Interesting article. As a former nuclear engineering student, I like science.quatto Thanks this. -
Do you ever hear car alternators that don’t have the proper shielding? My radio will make noise from a passing car once in a great while.

I read the article, and the comments below, also, thank you.
This is incredible that NASA has completely hoaxed the entire world since its inception.
Funny how the tin foil hat conspiracy theories are turning out to be true.
Term you just used; "Conspiracy theory," was a CIA invented term to discredit opposition.mladen86 Thanks this. -
If sound can't travel through a vacuum then why does light? Both need a medium/atoms to travel in. Asking for a friend.
Cat sdp Thanks this. -

Light is made up of its own particles called photons. Sound is just the manipulation of a medium. Passing pressure waves between molecules.okiedokie Thanks this.

So there is energy, like dark energy in a vaccum just not particles. Thanks
-
There are particles, but they're extremely sparsely packed irregular. The further out from a planet you get the less there is, but there's still something. Just not close enough to interact in any predictable manner like sound would require. But sound can also be read by reflected light on vibrating surfaces.
