no, you seem to think NEW is the only way to go, and you know jack about the business.
there are some great deals on good used trucks. since you know nothing, then you also didn't know to take along a mechanic to check them out as well.

I didn't say that. You need to understand that trucks are a commodity. You don't pay good money for them because they are red and have spiked lugnuts, you pay good money for them because their hours/miles are lower and they have quality records that shows they were maintained. A "cheap" truck is either, older, high mileage, maintained, but on the back end of it's useful life, or a newer "mystery" truck with no information, which likely came from a repossession. And if you think bringing a mechanic to look over a truck for 20 minutes makes all those worries disappear, I know lots of used car dealers that would love to meet you.....

you are talking apples to oranges, regarding taking a TRUCK mechanic to the sales lot, over taking the bro-in-law who has read a repair manual about cars, and kicks the tires and licks the windows..

a very good truck mechanic going with you is better than not having one. he can quickly look over a truck, and tell you to move on, or make a deal.

paying for a truck mechanic to go along with you, is worth it, rather than to take the truck to a garage, only to find out, it was a waste of your time. do that a few times, and you wasted more time than God has.

again, you know not of what you speak.

    MikeinNeb Thanks this.

yea buying a 23 year old truck for cash with no payments that actually runs without emissions equipment or a government tattle box in it really sucks.......

Omg OP, stop. I mean stop.

You want to help your brother, tell him to get another job.

You don't understand how this works, for the last two years, we haven't had a normal time in the market.

We have had an overcapacity in the industry as a whole, and now we will see a serious but a really welcomed contraction of capacity.

Now isn't the time to run out and buy anything unless it is a distressed sale and very cheap so you can sit in them for a few months. It is those deals that are quickly gone, poof within hours if not minutes. Two Volvos were sold in 10 minutes via email blast Monday. The lender took them from an owner that went out of business Friday after 15 years. Monday the lender sent out an email offering them at best offer sight unseen and it was sold in 10 minutes for 10% of their value.

And you don't buy a truck without putting it on a dyno, getting a blowby test with the dyno, and the rest if the steps that costs $1000 to $2400. You don't buy blind spot unless you have the capital to cover the loses,

I am not disagreeing with you. But maintenance records cover the stuff that truck mechanic can't see.

Unfortunately, I can tell you stories about family members buying old crap. They'd of made better use of their money burning it to keep warm. Many a farmer has cashed in on a relative of mine spotting something sitting in that farmer's field....:/

From what you know of your brother, on a scale of 1-10, how would you rate him
    1. Overall as a driver?
    2. As a responsible person?
    3. As a business partner?

    Now, rate the other drivers.

Buying the truck is only a small part of the equation. The big part is the driver. Big companies can get by putting boneheads in truck...well, actually they can’t. Hence the Dumb and Dumber training programs and the crazy lease purchase thing where they trick unsuspecting company drivers into paying for the truck and fuel.
Having less than stellar drivers can sink a small fleet overnight. So, be honest with yourself and proceed with caution.
