Maybe you should be shut down.

Personally, I have had no problem finding an open rest area or been turned away from any businesses.
I get my hot meals in my truck, where I cook them.
Tonight I had a grilled chicken breast with a big baked potato and some broccoli.
And define sanitary for your restroom needs?
Most place I go to are clean enough - none have been gross.

Aside from just a few changes in how things are done, my life out here has not changed at all.
    That is the reality.

I've noticed truck drivers have quietly been removed from all these "thank you" videos. If mentioned at all we're lumped in with Amazon and pizza delivery drivers.

*sigh* well it was nice while it lasted.

I read the story on Smithfield and it really burns me up. I've been arguing with some people about how standing up against illegal immigration isn't "racist" it's trying to abolish "contemporary slavery" and here it is.

An entire plant staffed by quasi-legal, seasonal or H1B visa workers. And when they get sick? Company drops them like a bad habit. So they hide their symptoms until they can't. Then more people who can't afford to not work get sick. Then they take their uninsured families to the ER, and the media wanders in an blames "our society" for not doing enough for the poor.

    No, NO, NO!

This is because we allowed Smithfield (and others) to get away with this kind of behavior FOR DECADES! Remember that truck full of illegals that died in a Walmart parking lot? Where were they going? There were connections to the poultry industry in Iowa (I think?) and the the whole story went away. Think there's a connection?

If the government had done it's job after that news story, how many people at places like Smithfield wouldn't be sick now?

I know it makes ME sick.

And...life would be better for working people like us. Truck driver wages are the same as in the 1980s meanwhile the cost of living has gone up who knows how many fold.

Plus, our job is a lot harder now. 100 million more people in the country than 1985 which means more traffic more accidents and less miles for us.

I agree with this, and in some ways it’s been actually more relaxing driving out here during this crisis. The city freeways and such have very light traffic and I don’t have to worry about timing when I drive through them. I’ve been able to run many of my routes much quicker because of this. The people that are really putting themselves in harms way are the ones that are still working inside those truckstops and grocery stores and places like that. As truck drivers we just have to run in and out and if we use hand sanitizer keep our distance and maybe wear a mask when you go in and out you’ll be and you’ll be fine!

You might be fine - then again , you might not . That is the problem with most people's thinking .

I can give you the names of a dozen grain elevators, and other businesses that drivers are no longer permitted inside to use the rest room. AK Acres popcorn, Imperial, Nebraska. Drivers and other vendors are allowed in the office, but not to use the restroom, which is 5' away, and if you are caught urinating on the side of the building or silo, they will call your company and have you banned. Kelley Bean, with locations in 4 states, only one of their offices are allowing drivers in, well, actually none now, on Friday they fired the Manager at the one place that was allowing us to use the restroom. New Alliance Bean, all locations, sorry, no drivers allowed. Paoli COOP, Paoli, Colo., yep, doors are locked, only employees allowed in, and I quote "Your not coming in here, you will wait outside", that from the facility owner, another driver asked to use the restroom, he was told there's a place 37 miles west. 21st Century Bean, Sharon Springs, Kansas, apparently truck drivers are radioactive, don't even think about walking in the office, the office girl will come to you, dressed as though she is prepping to handle radioactive waste.

Not every has the option, or the space to cook inside the truck, all these restaurants claiming to offer food to truckers, apparently, they forgot to ask their local town, police or the owner of the land their building sits on. And many of these restaurants, yeah, independent operator, they don't have to follow corporates lead if they don't want to.

From 7 pm to 7 am, all Colorado rest area rest rooms are locked, and a few rest areas are closed entirely. Go run I 70 from Denver to Grand Junction on the overnight, last stop WB is Downieville, after 10 pm, there is nothing open till you hit GJ, good luck. Head up I 76 to Nebraska on the overnight, last stop is exit 82, after that, nothing till Big Springs, 120 miles away. Same with heading east, last stop is Limon, next stop is 80 miles away in Burlington. Heading up I 25 to Wyoming, last stop is the Love's in Johnstown, everything else is closed at night.

That's pretty much how it is at the Littlefield CDF plant I deliver to. Samples and paperwork handed through a crack in my window before pulling into the unloading bay and stay in the truck. Everyone masked and gloved up. Luckily, the Allsup's and the Love's within my running range remain open all night and are pretty quiet and void of others.

That said, if you could fetch some TP and the proper sanitizing sprays and equipment, grab it and keep in hand if not doing so already. Never know when you got to find a bush and bury waste at night. Also, bar soap and refillable spray bottles of water will conserve that hand sanitizer or alcohol.
And then of course the unsatisfying, yet nourishing quality of "cold water ramen". Or PB sandwiches.

Well, I’m getting nervous now. 22 million Americans filled for UC so far. That’s nearly 15% of the working class. It’s Monday, 40mi out from the cons with a 24h drop window and I only have 1600 mi in with four days remaining in the pay week. No pre planned loads the last few days.......usually get one the day before delivery. Ran almost 12K last month.
