Guys I'm looking at changing jobs here and my application has been approved by both Marten(the bluebirds) and New Century out of Westhampton, NJ. Anyone drive for them? Tell me how these two are? I would appreciate it and it would help my decision on who to go to.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
Any Marten or New Century Transportation drivers out there?

RUN FAR AND FAST FROM MARTEN TRANSPORT !!!!!
I have been with them for 5 months now and detest them. The only reason I am still here is if I quit b4 6 months, I have to re-pay them all expenses they incurred for my orientation, flight to orientation, hotel, food, DOT physical, drug test, etc etc etc.
As of Sept 01, 2009 they force every driver to accept Per Diem pay, you do not have a choice anymore.
Also, they have recently started matching the truck GPS against our log books and are using any error as grounds for termination. Every time I pull into a terminal, there seems to be a line of trucks with drivers cleaning out their gear. Talking to them, I am being told by most of them, not all of them, but most of them, that they are being fired for minor log violations, not major ones, minor.
The drivers that have been here for 10, 12 15, 18 years are finding other jobs. From what I have heard from these guys, Marten USED to be a great place to work. NO LONGER. This place has taken a nose dive, according to them.
This past week I got slightly over 1600 miles, last week 2100 and the week b4 that 1450. I cannot afford to go home. I had to cancel my last hometime because I could not pay my bills, house payment, pickup payment, utilities, and cell phone bill. I don"t live the high life, just regular family bills and I cannot make enuff to pay them.
They deny my detention time regularly, they assign loads that are 300-400 milers with 3 or 4 days in between p/u and delivery, trying to get layover pay is like pulling teeth, they pay it but not without giving me a hard time.
The 3 times I did go home, 2 times were late. My first home time, I was 3 days late getting home. They are supposed to pay us $50.00 per day that they get us home late, which would have been $150.00. They denied it. The 2nd time, I was on time to get home. The 3rd time I was 6 days late getting home, they denied the $50.00 a day x 6 days = $300.00 pay for that one also.
I never run out of time, I don't give my dispatcher a hard time, I don't trash around the truckstops, I have 100% on time delivery. This company just...sucks. I wish I could say it differently but that is it.
{time for a well known cliche}
If I knew then what I know now, I would never have even looked at them for a job.
Wish I had positive comments for ya about Marten, but I do not.Bigcountry8079 Thanks this. -
New Century by far. I know a driver who had a 86in Studio T600 with an APU. All their trucks have Gen's on them and most are spec'd nice. I have not seen one that was not. They do not hire in FL as that driver had to quit. The owner, Harry M, is the founder/former owner of Jevic.

Ok good I got some feedback and hope to get some more....Silverado that's terrible if they're being that picky on the logs and plus not giving you the money for getting home late. It seems that about half the drivers do not like Marten and half do... I'll watch for more posts to see if what happened to you is a common theme there. There's no way I'll go to Marten if that's the case. Thanks guys!

new century was started by the guy that owned jevic untill he sold it to yellow who ran it into the ground
if they are treated as well as the jevic drivers were it would be one of the top jobs out there most of them(jevic drivers) made over $70,000LooneyTune Thanks this. -
Thanks 112. The more I read into New Century, the more it sounds they are the way to go. They will start me at 46 cents per mile plus outstanding benefits and equipment. I still want more feedback on here but I have never seen or heard anyone badmouth New Century whatsoever.

they took a huge hit like everybody else with this economy, they laid off about 100+people last november. they are hiring for road drivers and pt drivers. road drivers there this time last year were getting 52 cents and 15 a stop. With that said i would think when the economy picks up they will increase their pay. One thing they are very strict on is HOS. Go over 14 you will be suspended or terminated. They use QC to match your logs.

JIMSTA I assume you are referring to New Century?

I've driven for Marten since April of this year. Some good some bad just like any other company I've worked for in the last 18 years. I think a lot has to do with the fleet manager you get...as with other companies. Not happy at all with the pay change that went into effect on 1 Sep but...several other companies I know of have "taken" things from drivers and cutting back in the area of benefits etc.
Hometime...I've only been home twice...both times late getting home...but...both times they paid me the $50 per day late...no questions asked. Detention pay...I've gotten it all but a couple times...seems to be customer dependent. I just got $120 detention pay because a load wasn't ready when I got there..had to wait til morning.
Mileage...last 2 weeks...3177 and 3461. Has there been bad weeks...yep. Just like any other trucking company I've worked for. Part of the deal.
Overall...not happy with the changes in pay...but, not unhappy enough to leave. I like my fleet manager. In talking with many drivers in other companies and friends in other companies...I'm not doing bad at all.
Today's economy is causing lots of changes. Course it doesn't hurt that after 18 years in this occupation...for the most part...I still enjoy it.LooneyTune Thanks this. -
Thanks for the info on Marten Bob. What changes have they made to the pay package? I'm aware of the mandatory per diem but not of other changes... again my opinion on per diem is it should be an option, not forced.
