To anyone who has experience using ramps such as Sysco, USFoods etc.. I recently got a new job delivering using a truck ramp and I need advice on a good slip resistant steel toe boot to use on them ramps. I bought the Wolverine Durashocks which some say are good. They werent the cheapest ($135), however they are slick as ice going down that ramp with 400lbs on a hand truck. Does anyone here unload by handtruck and ramp? And if so do you have a suggestion for a good pair of boots.

    Any help is appreciated :biggrin_255:

Drag the skid on the ramp by not lifting it very high with the hand truck. That should keep it from moving too fast.

Well the handtrucks have brakes on them, which Im not sure if I like or hate. I try not to use them, but just walking down the ramp in general, my "slip resistant" boots seem like they are sliding quite a bit

I got a pair of redwings that work pretty good. We use roadwarrior ramps that have a pretty good anti slip surface except when its wet. For me, keeping up with the handtruck is the key to not slipping. Also watch out for the freezer section of the trailer when it's wet outside and going into store freezers.

Redwings have good ones, make sure the soles arent rubber but some composite, they can tell you.The grooves on the ramp will eat at the bottom of rubber shoes and 6 months later working in rain or walking in the alleys behind restuaraunts after they spray, your feet will get wet.I used to work For Reinhart/IJ and thats what I used. Also run that dolly to one side of the ramp and let that wheel drag alittle,it helps.....Good luck

Deliver food and use a ramp too, I have Timberland Pro Steel Toes. Work in and around Philly in all weather and never had a problem with slippage, as stated before be careful in the freezer though, slick anytime.

Oy. It's been a while, and I don't remember what boots I was wearing, but the ramps had a non-slip surface, kinda like the ones we use on airplane wing-walk areas.

This is probably the best advice. Use the friction of that wheel drag to your advantage. Just be careful you don't let it get away from you and go sideways.

We had one ramp trailer in the whole fleet. For some things it was a real blessing. But I hated it with a passion during the winter, with ice and snow. Could never get it out from under the trailer frame without getting soaked, then of course it was slick as snot...
