Lots of Drivers are just NOT installing any type of Two-Way in their rigs at all.. No. 1 complaint about CB, too noisy... IMHO: AM Really Sucks!!! The FEDS should allow FM on 27 MHz..

Yep, and I agree, it would reduce the noise... I think most of Europe is FM / SSB, no AM at all... Unfortunately, going to FM on 27 MHz still won't help with the Antenna/Grounding situation in lots of the trucks.. And 27 MHz operation does not legally offer repeater operation for users.

Agreed, it is a lot of effort to get things working RIGHT... As far as Company trucks go, How much is a brand new tractor???? Would you want just anyone cutting and drilling into your new truck???

On GMRS, yes you need a license.. It costs $70 for ten years, and it covers immediate family members...

Nope i wouldnt want anyone cuttin holes then again many will not look for ways to route coax or ways to mount a radio w/o cuttin holes..
In my 20+ yrs on the road i have yet to drill or cut..I still managed to install radios and antennas for myself..

Not spending $70 to turn a knob on my radio to talk to myself on fm..

    alds Thanks this.

I wish Icom or Kenwood would come out with a MURS / GMRS Dual Band radio for folks like Craig that don't want to do the license thing... MURS is a VHF (5 Channels) radio service that is license free. You're allowed 2 watts, a couple of channel are Narrow FM and the remainder are Wide FM. I believe there would be GREAT Demand for such a Dual-Bander, as I hear lots of Drivers are using MURS with HT's and external antennas...
