Hello there, I am new to the trucking business. I just purchased a 2016 Volvo bobtail truck and would like to lease it onto a company within the NY area. What are some of the best companies as far as pay, freight availability, etc. Also the other alternative that I'm exploring is whether I should hire a CDL driver who can operate the truck for me under my own company. Please could you advice and thanks!

Personally, I would have done my research and had a game plan before I purchased a truck. Hiring a driver to drive one truck is usually risky if you're planning to profit at the same time. The reason being is there will have to be sacrifices made
and the one that usually has to do the sacrificing is the driver. The only drivers that are usually willing to make those sacrifices are the ones that don't have any experience driving for an owner operator.

Now on the other side of that coin, if you have one of those few and far in-between contracts in front of you that pays well above the average rate, it could be profitable for both you and the driver in which case I would hire the best.

Putting a driver in a truck...... no way!!! The only way I would do that is if I knew them really good! They will tear up stuff quicker than you can replace it.

I have a good friend who is an O/O. I've sat with him several times asking questions, he's told me in order to make good money YOU buy the truck and YOU drive the truck. You will need aprox 30 thousand dollars set aside for major repairs, like a blown engine or trans. You'll spend about 5 grand a month in fuel. I wish you the best.
