I work out of a large distribution center in North Carolina. Up until the last couple of days, we have just been jammed with deliveries to grocery stores, barely keeping up. Our DC even started hiring temporary, outside contractors to deliver from our DC to the grocery stores.
Then, as of about the beginning of last week, things have really tapered off; we drivers that start in the early afternoon are lucky to get even 200 miles a day; not good but at least we’re working. I think people are slowing down on their panic buying in the grocery stores, with the exception of toilet paper which is always in short supply.
Even with all the news stations bombarding us with continual figures of doom and gloom, there still seems to be alot of questions as to what is really happening; including real conversations with real people that are getting affected by all this, including all of us in the trucking industry.
I’m really curious as to how all of us are doing and what we are doing; regardless of what we haul. I’m especially wondering about fuel delivery and the oil fields in general. With oil prices so low, how is that industry affected? Of course, all types of delivery are important; Reefers and LTL are also important indicators as to how our economy is doing at the moment. -
There's been some interesting things brought up that most of us would have never figured to be a part of this pandemic.
Like farmers. And oil.
I'm waiting for new car manufacturing to come in to the picture. Since some have switched to medical equipment now.Last edited: Apr 26, 2020

They are saying up north here to stock up on pork products while you can, could be a supply chain interruption, can you have enough bacon?
And I've been seeing some great deals on new vehicles if you're in the market. Looking to update mama's 2006.HoneyBadger67, BigDog Trucker and Deadbeat Dad Thank this. -

I thought I was going to have a month long vacation, but apparently people still need their copy machines and office furniture.
At least 3 furniture manufacturers were closed for 2 weeks, but my customers here in Phoenix had orders in production before the closure. So I'm still making my weekly trips trying to get these orders picked up, they say they should be back up to full production Monday.
Some of my other pick ups are still on limited hours, which makes it somewhat more difficult, but with a bunch of phone calls and texts we are able to still navigate.
With no traffic in the LA area, I am able to pick up in Fontana at 11:30am, drive to Irvine and deliver, then up to Commerce for anther pick and then down to Gardena for my last delivery before 4:30pm.
I'm usually pretty lucky with all the accidents being on the other side of the freeways!xsetra Thanks this. -
The govt ordered tanks for ww2. I don't think cars were produced for about 18 months. I'd have to watch the story again. If I can find it.
History channel had a 3 part series on the history of automobiles. It was mostly centered around ford.
The cars that made america. It's 3 episodes. 2 hours each. The ww2 thing was the second show. -
