Well, I have definitely seen more that simply want 1 or 2 years tractor-trailer (or CDL-A) experience. In fact, I can't remember ever seeing a local driving gig that specifically required over-the-road experience. I regularly check indeed.com just to stay aware of what's available should I ever decide to leave my current job. Look up "local truck driver" jobs in any large city on Indeed and I think it will prove my point. The "you need OTR experience to land a local job" myth needs to be put to rest. Lots of new drivers that would like to go right into a local job are being misled.

Manual truck drivers think they’re old school. This is old school:

I see what you're saying. I think that myth gets spread because right out of school, the most sure fire way to get experience is to go OTR. 9 times out of 10 that's a direct route to tractor trailer experience. These days though with food service to a lesser degree LTL, you can find gigs right out of school if you're in a favorable spot

Freymiller will put you in a manual, unless you ask for an automatic
JForce28 and Speed_Drums Thank this. -
My boss keeps buying auto shifts. I have one of the last manuals he purchased new. It's a 2017 t880 day cab. He can pry it from my dead cold shifting hand. I think I'd find somewhere else to work.
One of our drivers sent this to me. The truck he was driving has an 18 ultra junker plus. Displays 25 gears. Lol -
Automatics usually skip gears when upshifting and downshifting, especially when empty. They can also downshift automatically with the cruise control turned on and going through an upgrade. It’s pretty neat. My current truck is a manual, though.Dan.S Thanks this.
