Yes iirc CDC is saying 25% but there have been populations, homeless in Boston I believe, the aircraft carrier, and some other ones I can't remember the specific details, who are showing much higher rates of asymptomatic people

What We Need to Understand About Asymptomatic Carriers if We’re Going to Beat Coronavirus

I wouldn’t characterize our country’s healthcare system as “nonexistent.”

That healthcare system beat back my wife’s breast cancer, and it got my sister-in-law a new set of lungs. I’ve had a few colonoscopies myself, but nothing that was lifesaving like the other two mentioned above. Both were recent.

Wait, I did have a big polyp removed. That could have turned into something bad.

We’re still chipping away at our medical bills. Our share of the cancer bill was $20k. I never expected beating cancer to be free. Every year we pay off some and add some more. They're just bills we have to pay like the electric bill or car insurance.

I don’t know my sister-in-law’s finances. They let their house get foreclosed on in 2008/9 and are forever renters. I always considered them financially stupid in there decisions. They aren’t hurting based on the new $40,000 SUV she drives. No one is destitute.

In another year I believe they’ll classify my wife’s cancer as “in remission.” We’re praying for that day.

I didn't clarify well on my use of the word system I guess. You are referring to whatever system of doctors and hospitals that your insurance company works with. That is a micro level, local to your insurance company and your location. I'm happy to hear that your wife is doing well. Medicine is making good progress on breast cancer. But even that has various levels of success in different regions, and with different standards of care.
My intended meaning of the word system is macro level. National. The types of coordinated and standardized coverage and outcomes that the rest of the first world nation's have. Our costs are atypical, our outcomes are subpar, and as my initial concern was....we have lots of people who are not in good health, who have no medical access within reasonable financial costs.
They are our Achilles heel and if they kill middle class people who have insurance it's our country's health policy's doing. We can address the problem ahead of the issue or we can have shutdowns and other post epidemic problems.
Because this will happen again... it's inevitable. We've been lucky it's been this long...

The only way to know what impact that immunity will have after a few mutations is to get there.

A random sample of the population, testing for antibodies of the people in the sample. Herd immunity is defined as 60-70% of the people having the antibodies.

Current antibody testing in New York is showing 20% herd immunity. Low population areas will have less herd immunity, as they have fewer cases of Covid.

A vaccine can be used to bring the herd immunity up to about 99%.

I had read, maybe on CDC site, with the R value of 2.5 or whatever it is, I think I'm close, that we'd need a 75% ish range of immune population.
If the only way to get that many people immune at 1 time before a significant enough mutation occurs is to allow something like they have in Sweden, with 12% death rate.... I'm not sure I'm in favor. That seems a bit brutal. Like quasi barbaric....

Though I'm usually against big government, I could totally envision a medical distribution system. Where the Feds take in student doctors (for a discount on their school bills. Like a GI bill.) and ASSIGNES them a clinic location they need to work in for 2-3 years.

So John Trapper III, is having trouble making ends meet in med school. He goes to the enlistment center, does a 6 month residency in Bethesda or a military base, (or overseas.) then another 6 months in Bristol TN and a year in Davenport IA and another 8 months in Pensacola FL. He then returns to med school to finish up with a paid scholarship.

I'm lucky that I live in a part of the country where there are many hospitals and clinics available. I can't believe the stories I hear about people living in rural areas where it's 2 or more hour drive to the nearest ER.

We can do better than that.
