John Christianer Trucking is governed at 70, company is lease / owner op only though. So you're paying for the fuel.
And it does make a difference.
I'm much happier doing 66-69 and averaging over 7mpg then pushing my truck to 80 and averaging under 6mpg. The extra speed doesn't really get you there any faster because of all the times you have to slow down.
When driving governed trucks, my most miles in a day was just about 700 in a TransAm truck governed at 65. Think I only topped out at 650 driving a JCT truck limited to 70 despite having longer trips. JCT was faster, but that just meant I caught up to slower traffic more often causing loss of speed and time having to slow down and wait for an opportunity to pass. Ungoverned truck doesn't have this issue because you can go faster to make up for the lost time, but at the expense of fuel usage. Most I've done in my current truck (owned) is 760 in a day.
