    You guys are over complicating things. Say you twist or break a frame rail. Or more likely have to replace the frame due to crack or corrosion and you get one from a salvage yard. Why would you notify the state and try to title truck to its serial number? It is considered a replacement part that number means nothing. The only number that means anything is the one on the cab and it’s title.
    Same goes with using a take out engine from a salvage. If it has the vin on it from it’s old truck it doesn’t mean anything anymore it died with that truck.

    There are tons of old trucks out there running around with major parts from other trucks. That even includes mixing makes. How many Internationals,Fords,gmc, etc etc running around with Pete air rides? or FL airliners? I’ve got a ‘69 Pete cab that is going to be put on an aluminum ‘68 White-Western Star frame. There are even ‘50’s Macks sitting on 379 frames in Houston area. Still titled as ‘50’s Macks.

    ive heard of a guy that took a 2005 classic and put a 96 fld cab on it now hes Elog exempt

    Exactly what @SmallPackage said. Parts get replaced and updated all the time.

    My project I'm hopefully going to start on this winter, by the time I'm done I bet about the only thing original to the truck will be the cab. But that particular cab's got sentimental value.

    The biggest thing to keep in mind when you're building this is to keep meticulous notes while you're building it, as these will paramount for when it's time to get repair parts down the road. At bare minimum I would suggest the VIN off of the truck you got each particular component from, rear ends, motor, trans, etc. Again the VIN is the bare minimum. Life will be a lot easier for both you and the parts man if you've got the equivalent of what their parts computer has, only for your Frankentruck in a neat organized binder or something similar.
