Thats sounds abnormally cheap for progressive.
They were the only ones that would put a policy on my personal 2 ton truck, and initially shot me down as a cdl driver at the company i just quit, for lack of history, until i gave the employer my own progressive policy number to petition them with. He tried again and they took me on and actually dropped his policy premium a little. But a bunch of claims from one other driver and a terrible safety score jacked things way up. $40k premium on 6 trucks with one more accident to process.
Theyre expensive but theyll take startups. My quote for me as o/op with 1 truck and flat, 48 states, 1mil/150k and no coils was $18k with no coverage on the truck. -

I know this is a long post, but I believe people need to know the truth how OOIDA is screwing people over.
Thanks everyone, I appreciate everyone's advice and or suggestions. Here is what all I have and the reason I went with Progressive.
I Obtained my CDL in 1998 and went to work for a Company. In 2006 I ventured out, started my own company as an OO hauling logs and Progressive was the only Insurance Company back then who would insure me due to:
1. New Start up Company
2. No experience hauling logs
No other insurance company I called back then would quote me until I had 3 years experience. After I had 3 years experience no other company could touch Progressive Insurance rates.
Fast forward to Spring 2012 and the market for log hauling had dried up, so started looking for another avenue. Deactivated my authority, bought a 2007 KW, leased on with CRST out of Birmingham AL.
Progressive at this time would not insure anyone that went over 500 miles (something I never understood) and so I searched around and went with OOIDA as they were the cheapest at this time. Been with them every since and would still be with them until they decided to pull their highway robbery yesterday.
My insurance renewal was going up for $258.00 per month for no reason other than this.
I had an accident Sept 2018 where coming into construction zone on interstate the other driver tried to merge from his lane which was ending into the lane I was in and hit the front of my truck. Trooper reported it on the accident report He was at fault for not leaving enough room to merge.
I had another accident in October 2019 where a driver pulled out from a side road and hit my trailer. Accident report again stated driver failed to yield right of way.
On both of the accident reports it clearly states the other driver was at fault. In both of these accidents, OOIDA was never asked for anything at all, as I worked both of the other drivers insurance companies to get my truck and trailer repaired and back on the road.
So renewal came up and upon questioning OOIDA told me because I had 2 Non-Preventable Accidents their underwriters viewed this as 1 Preventable Accident and they also viewed this as I would be in a Preventable Accident in the very near future?????
Here is what I did. Since I am not longer hauling over the road, but staying in a smaller radius I thought maybe Progressive could be cheaper.
Called them and spoke first with the direct company and then called a agent my best friend knows and she gave me the same deal as the corporate office did.
Now my insurance with Progressive is going to be $3,650.00 with million primary liability, and truck and trailer full coverage. I will have everything I had with OOIDA with the exception of the mileage is not unlimited.
I can up to unlimited mileage at any time if I go back over the road as before and the total price will only be $4,800.00 which is still WAY cheaper than OOIDA.
Here is what made the difference at Progressive, as told to me by both people I spoke with.
I am a Rarity in the Trucking Business
I have a spotless record with the exception of the 2 Non-Preventable Accidents listed above.
I have 2 roadside inspections in the past 3 years, no violations
A clean MVR from the past 5 years
Total mileage traveled in past 5 years 500,000
Didn't know this mattered to anyone, but they pointed out this proved with a spotless record it was not someone who did not travel much and by traveling approximately 100,000 each year it proved to them I was a rarity. A driver who tried to obey the law and do what is right.
I was in shock as after the Rape job OOIDA was going to do to me I just thought this was the norm from Insurance Companies.
I even had Progessive email me the quote paperwork for verification to ensure it was legit and provided the same coverage.
So on Monday (as it was past closing at OOIDA) I will be calling OOIDA to inform them they will no longer be providing me insurance.
I switched over to Progressive.
I really do appreciate the advice, help and concern from everyone on here.FoolsErrand Thanks this. -
OOIDA won’t even help me out until I have 4 years of experience. What am I paying dues for if I cannot take advantage of full benefits that other O/O have? So, I dropped them and possibly will not return. If they consider me not fit for the same benefits that someone with 4 years of experience has, then discount my dues until I become eligible for all benefits. Why am I asked to pay full price?
So, I’m dealing with the treatment that comes with only having 2 years of experience but owning a trucking company.rachi Thanks this. -
Been driving 3+ yrs own authority the whole time, been with progressive the while time, once they gave me a rate, they have never tried to change it. 24k the first yr, 22k 2nd yr, 18k 3rd yr, now I'm down to 13k my 4th yr. In MD, so east coast high traffic areas, had old speeding ticket from before CDL, had plenty of inspections the 2 yrs getting harassed by coops being as new authority, some clean some not. Progressive has been good to me, oh and it's a breeze to get a certificate of insurance for new brokers and such.
