Not just drivers lost their jobs. The whole transport industry was hard hit. From Landline mag yesterday:
COVID-19’s disruption to the economy is reflected in the Bureau of Labor Statistic’s employment report for April, showing the largest unemployment rate since the Great Depression. The trucking industry was not immune to COVID-19’s effects on job losses.
The transport sector lost nearly 600,000 jobs in April, by far the largest monthly decrease since the Bureau began the monthly reports for the sector in 1972. Most subsectors took large hits in employment amid massive layoffs that were the result of stay-at-home orders nationwide.
More than five years of truck employment growth erased in one month
Trucking job blood bath. 88k lost in April

How come nobody is talking about a driver shortage now ?

2) SADLY & UNFORTUNATELY, there may also be a surplus of warehouse workers & other trucking company employees as well.
3) I TRULY & GENUINELY HOPE that these unemployed individuals do find jobs & get back to work ASAP.
4) I would NEVER in a million years wish unemployment on anyone, at any time. In the past, I went through 2 spells of unemployment: 11 months from 5/9/1992 - 4/12/1993, and 7 months from 9/18/2006 - 4/16/2007.
5) This year, I hit the 13 year mark at my current job, (since 4/17/2007). In another 3 years, providing that I do NOT get laid off or terminated, I will be eligible for full Social Security retirement benefits. I am currently 63, will be 64 this year.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!Last edited: May 9, 2020

Sad reality is last week the ATA was still tooting the driver shortage horn.
We pay megas to train drivers with tax money. So big business is just fine with socialism. Let them choke.
I've been parked 54 days. Maybe more, maybe not. We shall see. -
The damage is done. Once the federal fiscal yr begins on oct 1, slot of ppl in management will be laid off. And in Dec we will see several businesses closing there doors.
Several smaller businesses wont make it even when things open up. Because of social distancing standards, and a maximum capacity of 25% or 30%. Think of places like bars and etc. that were all about socializing. All this will continue to equal up to less orders being made on goods. Witch in turn effects trucking more and more.
I hope ppl will be able to ride out this storm. But I see some hard times ahead in 2021. I hope ppl can get out of debt.bzinger Thanks this. -

Not worrying me. I'm still jumping in in the next 60-90 days. This time next year I'll be driving Dave's #6 truck.
