Make sure if your pulling a 53 trailer you comply with California Bridge Law. If I remember correctly it 40 feet from kingpin to center of rear trailer axle. A little trick is you load a 53 trailer just like a 48 trailer. You should have 5 feet empty space in back of 53 trailer. So ifyif loading in NJ set trailer tandoms to CA Bridge Law and scale out and get it California legal.

My daughter lives in L.A. and the last time I was there, I noticed what a hassle it was to get around in trucks, no thanks. Guess I've lived in the mountains too long. I wouldn't drive a mo-ped there, and if I go again, I'm taking the train, which I hear is no day at the beach either..

Don't smoke in public, no big gulp sodas, and no red ball caps, otherwise a swarm of Prius drivers may run you off the road and devour you while chanting, "Orange Man Bad".

Reefers and APU's are suppose to be CARB compliant too, if that applies to you.

Seriously, you'll be fine here. As long as you're legal in other states, you'll be fine here. Just watch your speed and the cops will leave you alone. I set my cruise control at 61 on the highways and the CHP never gives me a second look. Hopefully whatever you're hauling here isn't that heavy and your tandems can be kept all the way forward. Most shippers know this and load you accordingly.

So cali's not peticuliar about the tatems being all the way forward like Maryland,I don't recall what the distance is in Maryland or cali is but I know Maryland is pretty strict.

No, they actually prefer them to be all the way forward out here. Just watch your tail swing if you're use to having them back further. The max distance from the king pin to the rear axle in 40 feet. Anything over that and they'll write you up and it isn't cheap. If there isn't a mark on the side of the trailer marking the 40 ft line, it's usually between 2-4 notches from the front on most trailers. My Utility reefer is at 40 on the second notch. Most dry vans it's a bit further.
