Running "under your own authority" might sound great but the down side is: Billing and collection can be a full time job. Some shippers are slow pay(90 days) and some never pay. If you haul for the Federal Government, their standard pay is 90 days plus there are many rules about taking a partial load and adding any other freight to the load even with seperate Bill of Ladings

In all honesty, if your husband is looking for a semi-decent lease program...look at Anderson Trucking Service. My girl is almost done with her first one year walk away lease on the specialized/flat side, and did really well with it.

The lease is explained pretty well, and written fairly clearly despite all the legal mumbo jumbo. Plus, ATS has flats as well as van. That way, if he wants to stay with a deck he can.

Warning! Rates suck across the board right now, no matter what trailer you drag. The suckage is slightly less at ATS, but it still sucks a bit. That's the market today.
