Quality of Delco Remy 39mt starters are bad. I keep changing them on DD15s. The latest pn 8200424 worked only 1.5 years. Did anybody have teared it down to see what is the problem inside? Anybody used Denso poweredge starters on DD15 ? If yes are they good?

Most times it is just the small solenoid on them that fails. It can be replaced separate from the starter.

You mean the ims that goes on top of starter or the solenoid switch?

Red is small solenoid. Blue is big one.

I’ve installed 2 of those. One on the freightliner, works good so far.

Installed one on the ford, got maybe 3 months, dead. changed the little solenoid, nothing.

Switched back to using rebuilt slow turning starters of the past.

Took the 3 month starter in to be checked. The big solenoid was burned. Not sure why.

I just replaced mine this weekend.
The starter motor housing was coming loose from the mounting flange. Those two really long thin bolts that run along the outside of the casing weren't tight enough.

Were the starters you got rebuilt or brand new? The ones that are rebuilt are sent overseas and only the parts that failed are replaced, the sol. that are put on are known to be junk.
