Yes, I even wouldn't mind leasing on to them, the freight can be fairly cheap but they keep you moving, most of the O/O's i talked to when i drove for them were really happy, and doing well.

ok guys question here. here in town today (memphis) i saw a truck carrying 2 large coils.( there wasnt anyway he was over weight,or was there) i couldnt tell what they were both were tarped. the odd thing thoguh is that both of them were sideways on the trailer, ie. i they rolled off it would be either drivers side or passenger side not front to back..... my question is this: is it legal to transport coils like that? I didnt think that it was b/c of the greater safety factyor to the general public. also are there coils out there that he could have had that makde him legal i guess maybe if it were rools of wire or something he could have been but these were large.
thanks guys. -
Yes, it is perfectly legal if secured properly, HOWEVER, TMC requires coils to be loaded the opposite way that you describe (IE Suicide) Meaning that if it does roll it will roll forward, or backward, Unless the customer requires them to be "Homicide" (Loaded how you describe) Also referred to as "Shotgun".
Ofcourse it depends on the customer as well, some companies can only unload coils one way or the other.chromewheelz Thanks this. -
There are different kinds of material coils can be made of. Metal, Alum, Wire, etc.. All different in total weight. Shippers will sometimes request coils be transported on your trailer a certain way for whatever their reasons are. When the coils are loaded where they could roll off either side then this is considered being loaded "SHOTGUN". When they are loaded where they could roll front to back then this is called "SUICIDE" (for obvious reasons) (sometimes also called EYE TO THE SIDE) ...TMC's policy is that unless the shipper specifically requests shotgun then all coils shall be loaded Suicide. The reason behind this is that when loaded Suicide then you can get more securement on them to keep them on the trailer. Sometimes when you see Flatbeds with them loaded shotgun, these might be Alum or lighter weighted coils which may not need 7 chains to secure them due to the lighter weight.

Could be aluminum coils. I have hauled 3 of them at a time many a time. They are about 6 foot tall a piece.
