I am going for orientation to Nashville Tech. 9/21. I am the first alternative. Told me to come in with my $49 for my drug screen in case the person in front of me decides not to show.

They are still kicking around the idea of a night class.

I may have hooked up with a part time handy man type gig to keep me afloat. I get some carpet work here and there.

I hope you get in there, you will not be disapointed. They are a couple great teachers and nice newer well maintained equipment. I will give you one piece of advice, dont miss any of the days and dont show up late, you will get a perfect attendance pin, and a note on your permanant record that will go out with all of your school records (the better companies will not let you attend orrientation, till they have your school grade & attendance records) That little thing makes a huge difference in this economy, where the better companies are only selecting a limited amount of students per qrt, to fill student driver training.

I thought they were all booked up? I think people are becoming discouraged by the low entry wage that they now offer in this industry. 3 years ago when I graduated, many of the better companies were offereing .32 to .36 and bonuses if you completed your first year.....now these same companies offering .26 & .27.

With all of these trucking forums spilling beans on the real world of trucking and the industry getting tons of new students looking for jobs, I wonder what will happen to the professionalism of the industry?

I think lots of people go through the motions and can't come up with the money. They did pass out paper work to get $600+ from the lottery fund. Feds are suppossed to pay for mine.

One guy I talked to had a grant for $2000 to go to school. They were going to put him in the January class.

I am going to gamble that I can get a job in January. You know the slowest month of the year!

I have a speeding ticket that my conviction date was Dec '06. So all I will have is a ticket from March '08.

In the mean time I can pick up the occasional carpet install and hopefully make due, while in school.
