I know a couple of hardworking guys who do rather well with dually pickups and 3 car trailers. One works off the load boards and stays regional in the NE and MW. Same truck and trailer as when I met him over 10 years ago. The other is leased to a carrier and hauls out of a railyard to mostly local dealers hauling new cars. Both seem content with what they do and have been at it for a long time. This is car hauling, not rocket science.

pick up trucks and a good wedge can make money. I did it for 3 years and then bought a stinger. I also knew where and what I was gonna be hauling before I even knew how to apply for my authority so that is why I started out in an old f350 and two car so I would not be in to deep if it didn't work out. insurance was several more thousand for the first year than I paid for the truck and trailer. if set on starting out in a pick up then try to go new so you will have all new brakes, tires, air conditioner, and etc. if your buddies are hauling new cars then ask them who they are hauling for and then call that company and ask for a carrier packet. fill out carrier packet and start hauling cars for that company by calling dispatch. I did well enough my fist year in business that I bought a new truck and bigger trailer the following year. my 3rd year in business I bought a sterling with a 4 car headrack that used to be H&A truck that was traded in at my local freightliner. that stinger which could fit 11 cars depending on the load cost the same as a base model 1ton so that is also something to consider. a new business during these times is not going to be easy . best thing would be to get a cdl first if you do not have one.
