Hello everyone,
I have a driver test for ups tomorrow at 10:30pm. My first question top everyone is what does the ride rest consist of?
Also the manager said it takes two years too be hired as casual and I'd be 18th on the list. Once I break the top ten I'll get more full time hours. My question is will it be worth the wait? The position comes with benefits and teamster insurance. I've had one other job offer and it doesn't pay nearly as well as ups. ($18.50 vs $30). But I'm still waiting to hear from coke, usf Holland, escro(local company) .
Ups seasonal to casual

Any thoughts?Texas_hwy_287 and LtlAnonymous Thank this. -
None of those are really bad options but you have to ask a very simple question.
Why has UPS had a waiting list to get hired for the last 40 years? It can't be because they are a horrible company to work for....lfod14, skinnytrucker, LtlAnonymous and 1 other person Thank this. -
That's true. It's just the waiting game. He said once January hit things get slow. To the point where i might work a day or so a week. The manager said guys went three weeks last January without work.
My thought is if I can see light at the end of the tunnel maybe it's worth it. I want the full time gig for the retirement benefits. I'm just stuck mentally and don't want to make a bad decision. That escro position is teamsters also but it won't pay nearly the same as ups.LtlAnonymous Thanks this. -
The question of will it be worth the wait depends on you. Young guy, no spouse or kids to support with stable budget and low debt?
Can you hack a considerable period of time where you aren't making a full week's pay while also going through pay progression?
My understanding on the $30/hr rate that UPS is paying is for their temp seasonals, but once you become a permanent employee you go through the actual pay progression. Of course it's confusing because there are contract addendums and MOUS for every region, so I'd also confirm with UPS if your rate would drop to whatever appropriate step upon to becoming permanent.
I'd kill to have a time machine to go back to when I was dumb and 18 and get into UPS.Texas_hwy_287, Cardfan89, jmz and 3 others Thank this. -
Yea I'm 27 I have a wife and son. But the wife is extremely supportive and said the same as long as we can see a light at the end of the tunnel she is ok with it.
I know he said in January it drops down to $21 which isn't a big deal. I figure maybe I can get a bus driving job while I wait for work too pick back up again.
I just know this will set my family up for life. It's just making it through.650cat425 and LtlAnonymous Thank this. -

I would say stick it out with UPS and years from now you will look back and be glad that you did.
LtlAnonymous, McUzi and Buffalonytrucker92 Thank this. -
Thank you guys. I'm just getting in my own head. I keep going back and fourth but I hope I get full time. Was my dream job since getting out of trucking school
LtlAnonymous Thanks this. -
UPS is very strict, and I have to wonder about the percentage of those on that list that can’t tolerate all of their rules once they do get in. It isn’t always about the money.Lucky12, alds, LtlAnonymous and 5 others Thank this.
