many newbies refuse to take the time to look through an atlas, WHILE at the truck stop, or at the terminal, or at the customer (while being loaded or unloaded) and verify some facts on your route(s)
then simply jot them down on a pad, post that on yer dash board for a reference.
what do you think we old timers did?
how do you think we got to where we were going?
maps, phone calls, and other truckers that been to those places, giving directions, or at least, getting us close.
now yes, today, not too many truckers talk to one another, but a good truckers road atlas will always be of value. tell me, what will you do, when your GPS ups and quits, when you needed it the most?
what if the fuse in line to the GPS blows out, and you do not have a replacement?
a truckers road atlas is yet another in a series of "tools" he/she should have, and for the paltry cost of under $50 (or less when on sale), isn't that a BETTER investment than say buying a video game dvd???
i think so, but hey, i am retired, and in the end, i could care less if anyone hits a low over pass, or crosses a weight limit bridge, cuz he/she depended too much on his/her GPS.Brettj3876, JolliRoger and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -

then i'd call the customer, and get more precise directions.
then i'd save a copy for me on what were they called, those little white card?
index cards?
then i'd give a copy to dispatch who'd save them for others.
but it took cooperation from all of us.
then in time, Qualcomm came along, and dispatch gave what ever directions they had stored in that.MACK E-6 and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -
