Hey everyone brand new to the site.

I have a detroit series 60 12.7 L in a 2001 Fire Truck and the fan is constantly on.

It doesnt appear to be controlled by an air solenoid its hooked directly into the belts if that makes sense.

Is this type of setup suppose to stay on constantly or cycle on and off ?

    Thank you

Usually the fans are either air or electronically operated. It is possible, that the fan on the truck, is set to run all the time, because of the short runs, and the excessive idling, when pumping if it is an engine. Do you have any pix?

If there’s a 1/4” air line running into the fan, it comes from the selinoid. You’ll also see the 2 disk clutch itself, behind the belts. If it’s a clutch type fan.
