Take the truck to an honest mechanic. If he clears it, take it to a dyno and ask them to stress the f out of it. If it survives the dyno, buy it. But prepare for problems; hope for smooth sailing.
Frontman Thanks this. -
Your bank account. Make sure you have 15 thousand in it if things go south. I don’t care how well the truck checks out.
Though Some get by on Luck and delusion
What year /make/model. How many miles. What motor and transmission. Recent major service or rebuilds ?Frontman Thanks this. -

Dyno, Blowby, Fluid analysis, ECM FULL dump, independent mechanic that you want to find things wrong to make a list of things wrong with negotiating a price down.
Don't get emotional over the truck, it is a tool, it is one of many trucks out in the market looking for an owner and many will just sit looking sad.tommymonza Thanks this. -

You can look at RigDig. They are the CarFax for trucks. Buying a used truck can be bad. I had 2, the first on was ok because it was 2000 truck. Pre emissions. Then 2011 because my truck had 1.4 million on it and . Both had clean RigDig reports. The 2011 truck was a nightmare of repairs even with parts and labor warranty on engine from Detroit Diesel. The did the warranty work for free but the downtime was crazy.. I would not buy any truck unless it was 2014 or newer. From 2002-2014 all the new emissions trucks are a mess
Jay-Z Thanks this.
