My experience running 100% legal, if anyone cares.

Can we knock it off with the T/L vs LTL stuff?
    1) this thread is about a guy trying to run 100% legal, not how awesome LTL is
    2) LTL companies can afford to be very picky these days - and judging by the terminals near where I live, they are hurting as much as everyone else here in the local economy
    3) student drivers can only dream about LTL work, and will need 2-3 years of OTR before they can even apply for a job in that market

True. It's a stone PITA trying to get into LTL these days. Until things get better, many drivers will have no choice but to run TL, and that's OK...you do what you have to.

But this thread gives folks-especially noobs or wannabes-a good look at how things go when you play by the rules. And, given the tightening of laws, draconian penalties, PrePasses, QualComms and cameras on every corner, we're all going to be rolling 100% by the book soon. The outlaw days are just about dead.

Something's going to have to give. :biggrin_2558:

You need to learn how to read, what's your problem? I didn't complain. I never said I had a problem driving 30 minutes to get to work. I was happy to have a job that close. I was pointing out that I had just as little of a life back then as I do as an OTR driver. You are not on duty if you are sleeping. Come on.

Bad day yesterday, but I knew it was going to suck! My A/C crapped out in Dallas, TX 2 days ago so I had to get it to a shop.
But get this garbage, Knight refused to pay for a motel for me the 1st nite, so I paid for it. The 2nd nite, last nite for those keeping score at home, I was told to sleep IN SOMEONE ELSE'S TRUCK!!! Even though we have a local hotel that we contract with to put up drivers during orientation. Anyway, I got to the yard after-hours and the truck I was supposed to sleep in was not even in the yard! To his credit, the nite dispatcher expressed his disgust and said he wouldnt sleep in someone else's truck either and put me on the list to go to the motel! At least someone at Knight has some common sense and empathy!
So here I sit in the yard, getting my truck fixed. Hopefully I get out of here today.

the people at the hutchins terminal are pretty cool. they're the ones who hooked me up for that one week. the very same week the old so-cal division truck was cranked up to 70.

there was a married couple at the slc yard 2 to 3 weeks ago whose turbo went out. they had been at that yard since 4 days BEFORE labor day weekend, and were still there by the time i left, which was 3 days after. 2 days later, i'm dropping off a load there to have a b-service done. they were still there! knight kept telling them to sleep in their truck. the wife had had enough of that crap and went into the office to raise some hell. the husband didn't go in there because he admitted he has a pretty nasty temper. he went for walks around the area to let off the steam. at any rate, this is truly a company that does not care for their drivers.

why do i stay? well, i stay because of financial reasons and the lack of employment opportunities around my area.

Hey, let's knock off the arguing, please. Truckerdave has a great conversation about an important issue going on, no need to ruin it with a flame war.

2577 actual miles driven, pay miles may be less
    59.25 hrs on duty
$876.18 earned, based on .34/mile, BEFORE taxes
or if I had a real job that paid OT after 40 hrs
    $12.72/hr

Overall not a bad week. I did not spend alot of time on line 4 and the majority of my loads were drop/hook. That enabled me to put more time behind the wheel. The big obstacles this week were runs had too much time between p/u and delivery, or a 2 day run logging illegal that took me 3 days to deliver legally.
IMHO, $12.72/hr, better than last week, is still unaccecptable for this profession!

yeah dave keep it goin. I thought bout goin to knight but they are no better then the company I'm with now. The law change with DOT using the qual com to match your logs has been a big screw up to us.
