My Detroit s60 12.7 is very loud first 50-100 miles? After that not so much?

yup, it is a big difference! Yes I do have a black soot.
It feels like engine is working rough but after an hour / two calms down and works smooth!

Black soot shows exhaust leaks. My mufflers were so bad, they would rat a tat tat when it was cold, then just loud. The heat quiets things down, I guess. You’ll always hear a leak more when it’s cold. Hopefully it’s not an internal problem, like bull gear, or something else serious. Need to figure out where the noise is coming from. A stethoscope from Harbor freight, or a long screwdriver held to your ear. Be cautious doing that. Lol.
