You guys are so lucky. Hiring off the street with no seasonal work is a rarity.

I went to CACH for the first time the other day. When I pulled into the gate I stopped and asked a spotter where my bay was at. He told me to go to the end of the building. Little did I know it was a 15 minute drive to the end of the buildingLPjunior1970, BigDog Trucker and LtlAnonymous Thank this.

Second largest terminal in the entire company, and the only one that's bigger has an airport. LololBanker and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this.

I may have punched in there a time or two! There are many doors that when you go get your trailer you have to cross the ramp where airplanes may be moving and also the wings are within feet of your truck. Side note if you hit an airplane, you won’t get your job back. I never hit one!LtlAnonymous Thanks this.

This may not be the right place to ask, but I'll try anyway. I'm 24 and currently at the bottom of the linehaul board of my UPSF terminal. During the pandemic, I went over to the small pack terminal in our area to work/not get laid off at UPSF. I've always thought about making the move to Ground and leaving the freight side because it would offer more job security, better pay rates, more comfortable work environment (in terms of being allowed to take your time to do it the right way vs running balls to the wall), and at my UPSF terminal we keep cutting runs even when drivers retire so it seems the future is not too bright here.
My question is, would I be crazy for leaving my UPSF gig to gamble on a seasonal opportunity at UPS Ground this coming peak season (if possible) and hoping to be brought on full-time? Would I be better off slinging packages as a part-timer until a position opened up in feeders so that I could be promoted from within and not have to get lucky on waiting for an "off-the-street" hiring?
Sorry for the long post. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.LtlAnonymous Thanks this.
