I recently noticed the clutch pedal is not lined up with the stop and the whole pedal moves left and right with the rod inside. What can be the cause of this issue and can it turn into a bigger problem ?

Probably a nylon bushing is worn on the pin that holds the pedal .

The diagram that I got from the dealer is here but i can’t pinpoint where the issue might be

Looks simple enough. Crawl up under there with a flashlight.
What is the other half of the diagram the brake pedal? -
Check the through shaft, item 40, at each end. The clutch pedal attaches with a bolt and outside the firewall, it attaches again to item 15 with another bolt. If the bolts come loose and the linkage arms start to walk off the end of the through shaft, it will cause the whole thing to excessively slide back and forth like that. In some rare cases, we have seen the actual firewall cracked and allowing the whole thing to move side to side.

In the picture is item 15 I’m guessing it slipped out of place with time ?

I would guess so,yes. It doesn't look like it has moved, so check the clutch pedal too. You should be able to loosen that bolt and hammer the bracket inward to take out the side to side movement.

On my '96 the brackets broke out of the firewall as mentioned in another reply.
I would have a very careful look up there under/behind the dash with a trouble light to figure out exactly what you have going on for sure.
Took a bit of fabrication to reinforce things for a permanent repair, but no more issues.
