Kaominerva & Lonesome: well fellow seekers re; endorsements & LTL.
Gr8 if u still have endorsements, give u more options what with tanker, hazmat, doubles, even triples.
I had all those for many years, After got hired for local tanker in Torrance, CA they sent me to tanker training/orientation at Quality in Baytown, TX for like a week in heat of muggy July in PPE head to toe, decided not 4 me. They said thought u were ok with heat?
Ah yeah, dry heat in the west, even desert in Phx, not that sticky muggy stuff with full PPE to boot. They were gracious enough to pay for flight back to CA. But I dropped all endorsements, hardly ever used hazmat, or only tried out once for doubles job in Pico Rivera, didn't work out. But those with exp can get into that niche either tanker/hazmat, or doubles, and do pretty well with pay & good equipment.
As for LTL, perhaps union Yellow/Roadway now YRC I think, can get good paying "local" job. But I was in Teamsters only once in 2005, for Johnson Controls/Ruan ran batteries out of Fullerton. I didn't like it much, esp since I was low man on the totem pole, got the runs noone else wanted, like St. George, UT 0700 Costco del, then like 12 drops in Vegas area, mostly Walmarts, but even though back in 2005 was on clock/timer Highway Master? Plus had to pu old batteries from the cage outside, which required mgr to open with key, took longer waiting or chasing around mgrs or asst mgrs with keys to open back for new batteries & cage outside. The highlight of that job though was the spread of tasty food & treats they put out by caterers at Fullerton Hotel, for annual meeting.
Of course other well paying option is "parking lot" auto carriers, I've only done enclosed, but briefly only a couple of months or so, as same thing other exp drivers got good southern routes, CA TX etc but they sent me me to midwest MI at end of Dec. I did get $250 in tips alone on Christmas day, that was about the daily avg pay at 20 % of revenue. Certainly most glamorous job I ever had in trucking, with Lambos & Ferraris, Porsches etc, but not fun in snow/freezing rain pellets loading on ramps/securing even inside carrier with door open, and attaching frozen PTO lines to run hydraulic pumps for ramps. But I still have nice warm hooded & lined winter coat with company emblem.
Sorry I'd include pics but were on an old phone, but y'all can check out equipment & the fine cars:
