jtrnr1951 Thanks this. -
If you go to school locally, look at May Trucking also. Have you looked at Central Refrigerated? I know these are all reefer companies but that is what I am most familiar with.
-
What is reefer LB? Probably refrigerator I suppose. But someone said to stay away from reefers, wonder why? Not that I listen to everything that's posted. It's just always different experience for different folks. I'll check out May as well, thank you again

Reefer is short for refrigerated. Some people don't like to pull reefers because there is alot of wait time involved. Waiting at shippers, waiting at grocery warehouses, etc. And alot of the places you wait don't treat you very well. Some people don't like the noise of the reefer running behind the truck as they are trying to sleep. My family has been in the reefer business for a long time so I have been around it since I was a little kid. I like the versatility a reefer gives you because not all of the loads have to be refrigerated. But that doesn't really matter to many company drivers.

thanks LB, I learn something new everyday
Well, reefer or not, it would be a job so I won't turn my nose up at refrigerated companies
ty again, denise

wow Denise..........obviously they've just recently changed the program. Thanks for the info. I'll have to not give that old info anymore.
We also pull reefers but because we're on a dedicated fleet we don't see much wait time unless it's suppliers in CA. -
everything is changin and not for the better from where I'm sittin, later, denise

Hey There...
Hope it is going well for you. Have you found out anything new?
I also had a couple other ideas for you. I am actually starting at a local private school Monday. The school offers financing and at a much better interests rate than what some of the company schools do. You can also finance over the cost of the school to give you money to live on during the school and until your pay checks begin, they also deferred the payments, and with many companies offering tuition reimbursement, it actually works out better than company schools.
Okay, so now the other ideas, I don't know if you attend Church, but the church I attend will assist members with finances, for example, last Sunday after service they were selling ice cream, cookies, pies and other things to raise money for a member who is going to school to become an LMT, the school is already paid for, she just needs money to live off, pay bills and such. We have also had fundraisers for other members. The idea is that when they get working and earning they will help the church help others.
Also, realize that people do enjoy helping people, and companies do also, it is good for their image, a couple weeks ago I bowled in a fun silly tournament which was to raise money for this guy to go to mechanic school. I paid $50 dollars to be in the tournament, I got friends to sponsor me, a penny or more per pin. I bowled a 136, 182 and a 154, my total pins was 472 and with all my sponsors it came to $1.46 a pin, so I raised $689.12. There was about 20 other bowlers there all bowling for anywhere between .40 cents a pin to one guy who was at $2.34 pin. He was the highest. We all got cool bowling towels, a t-shirt, .50 draws all night and a certificate of appreciation. It was good for the bowling alley too, I hadn't bowled there before, and I have bowled there twice with friends since. I think it ended up aveaging around $476 a bowler with just under $10,000 being raised, a couple thousand went to the towes, t shirst and stuff, the bowling alley got a percentage and I believed the guy got around 4 or 5 thousand for school. So, go check it out. All they can say is no.
Anyway, there are always more resources out there than we realize. Good luck!
Take Care
