I spoke to an owner op that was considering suicide yesterday.

He hadn't been able to send anything home in almost 3 weeks. His wife is unemployed and they have 3 small kids.

While that's certianly not reflective of the entire industry. You can take from that what you want.

Well that could be a little on the high side, depending on the region of the country we are discussing.
As in any avocation, much depends on one's negotiating skills.
I got 1,2 million per year on my last contract, but in todays market I had to make some concessions.
I must forfeit my sign on bonus, if I unfulfil ANY portion of my commitment during the 3 year period.
I am also subject to penalty if I fail to meet the standard of 90,000 miles per year and work is available.
However, I worked out a bonus if I exceed 110,000 miles per annum payable in stock options.
I wanted cash, but sometimes you have to give up a little to get a little.

Dockworkers might think that...if all the drivers they encounter are FedEx, UPS and the like.

He doesn't understand the difference between LTL and OTR.

That dude on the dock is smoking some serious crack!:yes2557:

I have a friend that said when he worked at Watkins in the late 90's drove fewer miles the more his rate went up. Not his choice.
