The last few years have seen a lot of trucks running socks over Donner.

FFE runs a lot on the I-5 L.A. to Portland, then back down to SLC and back to DFW. But I think that FFE also allows their drivers to wait out the chainlaw.

It just means an extra trip up and down the steps. Did you watch the video(s)....my iron is just as tight without the blocks and I don't lay in the snow and slush. Like everything else in this industry it requires experience and practice to be good at. You just pullup the boy pants and do it, listen and learn, and try different ways until you find the most effective and efficient way for you. Not because"someone said" but because you listened and tried and found YOUR WAY.

Once u get the hang of it . U can put 6 socks on in 15 minutes . And take em off put em away in 5 minutes. Save alot of time and frustration and cold numb fingers

I have a set of socks that I will throw on if I'm struggling a spinning around in a parking lot... But for serious on road chain law stuff I use the real deal.

I"ve put on double chains. Those that cover both tires with one chain. I hated them.

Youre probably right... I seriously think that is one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in the winter.

Socksare convienient, but you can't run em on without a snow pack as a cushion...wet or choppy asphalt chew them up.

No disresepect meant. I'll try both. Find my groove. Your way may work better. I want learn to work smarter not harder.
