How long does an air dryer cartridge last?

    I replaced mine 5 months ago. I changed it today, it was pretty heavy.

    Three times the last month. Air pressure would stop building at 50 psi. Or it would build to 130. Then it would drop to 50 and really struggle to get back up. I changed the governor last week thinking that was it. But this morning I didn't get more than a mile. So now I have a new cartridge.

    I do not know. A company I used to work for replaced them every 250,000 miles or two years.
    There are a lot of different dryers out there anymore. Oil in the system throughes everything out the window.

    Cartridge life is dependent on many factors,total air consumption being the biggest variable.

    I'd imagine if you operated in high humidity areas it would have a shorter lifespan.

    Oil wrecks the dessicant in the cartridge. Alcohol will damage it too. If you ever have to put air brake antifreeze or alcohol in the air system, put it in after the dryer.

    Where does the air come from in the compressor? In my isx it came near the Cross over egr pipe. My dd15, I'm not sure. The compressor is burried under the dog house. Hard to see what feeds it.

    I change mine every fall. Make sure your air tanks are drained.
    Modern trucks require the oil coalescing filter.

    Once per year. Really they should last longer. It’s when your air compressor gets old that you have to replace more often.

    it’s a precursor to having to replace it the air compressor.

    Sounds like your compressor is passing oil. Cut the cartridge open and see what's in it. If its oily, time for a compressor.
