Then why do both amps specifications say they are rated for up to 4 watts in? Educate me. :)

I know that's what they say, but why do the specifications say otherwise? I've always been curious about that discrepancy.

They probably mean they will withstand 4 watt input, but ill tell you flat out they sound better with just a watt or two. I sold hundreds of those things on ebay and elsewhere

On an average day you will see little to no difference going from stock to 50-100 watts. The power increase would equal a 1-2 db gain on the receivers end. What is the impedance of your antenna? A flat or near flat match can be so misleading if the impedance of your antenna is not right. Regardless of your set up, how well or far others can copy you can be more indicative of their set up and short comings on their end then on your end.

You don't really want a flat match to an antenna.

Wow I was looking for someone to ask why a flat match isn't good.

Forget it, I will let those to wonder about it.

Waitaminute... say it ain't so, Ridge.

What's wrong with a flat 1:1 match, anyway??

So, in the last post in the thread linked to by Meteor, someone suggested getting a radio with variable output power. While I can see the value in this, I don't want to switch radios. I like my 29LX.

There's probably a way to add a knob or repurpose an existing knob you don't use (like TalkBack) to vary the output power. I wonder how.

    Timin770 Thanks this.
