This turned out to be just a bull snake, but it got my full attention as I was pallet jacking this load off.
It had crawled up into the pallet that was sitting outside at the shipper I loaded at. 6F4F70B7-204C-4D0B-904D-78AD9F5C6A74.jpeg

If you get down near Sweetwater in March, you can go to the Sweetwater Rattlesnake Roundup. You can book a guided rattlesnake hunt or just roam the grounds and maybe try some Southern Fried Rattlesnake. Yummy.

The bull snakes can sometimes be more startling because they will climb up in rafters and trees and live in trailers and cabs of equipment. Tilt open a hood and they are coiled up on top of an engine. Harmless bite but they will hiss and strike and they look like a rattler at first glance. They get the heart going for sure.

I lived the first 30 years of my life in Texas, the Ft. Worth area to be specific. I can count the number of times I've seen a rattler in the wild on one hand.
Admittedly Ft. Worth is more of a city than say Luckenbach, but I spent a fair bit of time all over the state,

Be wary in those open aired rest stops if you goto to poop. They will crawl up and bite your Canadian butthole if you try and poop on em.

I've walked in and seen them in the toilet before.

Chances are low but something to consider.

Couldn’t tell you how many times I go to turn the water hose on around the house and “hello mr bull snake how you doing?” I see those and yellow striped green garners a few times a week. The most Diamond Backs I saw out here in a year were 11 in the summer of 2012. It was dry and they were looking for water. In those months we had two dogs bit and one came into my shop while I was under the truck. Hell no.

They normally weren’t a big population in the dfw area. They say that is changing. The wild hog overpopulation in south Texas is pushing them north.

You're much more likely to see lizards in the parking lots than snakes in Texas.
