It's especially good for the goose, when you consider how many drivers have been terminated 100's of miles from home. With no real transportation, other than Greyhound.

ANY company that will fire you at will, wherever you may be. Doesn't deserve a 2 week notice. At that covers about every company out here.

So I have calmed down... sort of. I am still sitting here without any load. I appreciate all the opinions. I had not planned on telling them I was going to leave as soon as I did, but they wanted to put me in a new truck and I turned it down. Well, they kept pushing it and asking me to take the new truck so I told them why I didn't want it. Oh well.

While I have been sitting a lot the last couple weeks I believe if this was during the week my fleet manager would not have let this situation happen like it did today. I give him credit for that. He is one of the best fleet managers I have had. It's the night and weekend idiots that have me at my wits end.

With that being said... If I don't have a load out of here tomorrow I will be on a bird home first thing Monday morning. $129 Atlanta to Columbus via Charlotte. 3hrs 26 min total trip. I can deal with not having a paycheck for a couple weeks in exchange for my sanity.

You have every right to be as frustrated as your post sounds. Try to use the down time as constructively as possible. Plan for the new job, contact people you haven't talked to in awhile.

Question for you, what is the reason for your notice? Just the miles or other issues?

It had nothing to do with miles or anything else. I am laid off from hauling gas and was able to get another gig hauling gas again. It's just that the new gig won't have the new account starting until November, so I won't be needed until mid October at the earliest.

I never wanted to ever go back OTR and tried everything I could to avoid it before I ended up coming back out here. There was just nothing available for jobs in Columbus. Well, nothing that paid more than what I was making on unemployment. So now with having the new gig coming up soon and not wanting to be out here in the first place, the stress level is sky high.

Maybe I didn't use the best choice of words..."their rules".

Either way...I'll work out a notice when I leave because it has ALWAYS helped me more than it hurt me (or the company)

Perhaps it has a lot to do with the kind of companies that are left out there!! I ALWAYS gave a 2 week notice and never had a problem. And most companies furnished me a way home, one even flew me from Chicago to Florida. No dings on my DAC. But then again, I never worked for the mega-scum companies.............

You should be commended for the effort you put forth in supporting yourself and your family. Doing what's necessary to support them is not always easy. Hope the time from now until you start the new gig becomes less frustrating.

Biscuit. You do know to get approval to leave your truck at the atlanta terminal if you do decide to separate from FFE ... so that they do not ding you for abandonment. Usually you have to drop the truck at the same location you picked it up.

Understand that and I admire you for doing what you have to do to support a family. We sacrifice things to do that sometimes. I have been out here on and off or doing a local. Just seems the locals don't pan out for me. You always hear guys saying don't do the OTR get local jobs. Well; why do guys give up the locals and come out here? There is usually a reason for it. I get burned out too, but I have a wife and kid and I want my kid to get a good education. A lot of those locals are folding up or not worth the few hours you see your family in. I do what I have to do or at least what fits me best to provide for the 2 at home. Good luck, just remember you stay off the road more than 6 months and you need a refresher and a trainer again.
