Most companies have you sign a paper when you hire on that says" This is an at will job, we can fire you or you can quit without reason/notice." I seem to remember signing that paper when I worked at FFE.

A lot of that is the co. Some co's will burn you. You plan to work a couple more weeks or take the truck home to clean it out and they bring you in and send you packing. I left maverick good. 2 week notice and they honored me going home to clean out truck. I turned it in cleaner than when I got it. They did me well. Even took me to the bus station and payed for my ticket. I also stayed there that night after I kicked off my last load in NLR.

    Yes... I know you're right.

I haven't moved around much...I almost quit Schneider one time but they put me on the heavy haul fleet to keep me from quitting...LOL.

When I left Maverick, they knew full well that I didn't really want to leave, but at the time, I felt I had no other choice. (family matters)

I left East Tennessee Truck Lines because I needed a break from the stress of truck driving (running VERY illegal)...I was on the verge of shoving an Ohio State Troopers Glock up his arse because he was being a real jerk (20 something year old punk)...figured that was a good time to take a break, before I did lose my temper on somebody.

I worked out my notice at ETTL running local here in TN...I refused to go back to Ohio.

EDITED TO ADD: I had no intention of hurting that poor kid of a cop...just wanted to humiliate him and teach him a lesson in manners...which I did...in court, I beat him every which way but loose because of his behavior on the side of the road.

Well to be fair the one time in my life I quit a job, it was without a 2 weeks notice, after 4 weeks of pay issues I finally told them I am done and left same day.

I have worked for my company for 7 years. The first 3 years I went through several fleet managers, not one of which EVER got me home on time. I figured it was the least they could do - after all, I got their freight where it needed to be on time every day. I finally got fed up and fired my FM for not getting me home on time and he asked for another chance. The very next month he left me hanging again, so when I finally got home, I cleaned my truck out and after my home time was up, I asked them where they wanted me to take it because I was quitting. I took it to the closest terminal and went home. A couple of weeks later they called me and asked me to come back. I told them I was tired of fighting with them every month trying to get home. They said I could drive regionally. I said no thank you, I'm an OTR driver. Then they said they had a dedicated account that was OTR - it was priority freight and freight that the customers specifically didn't want going by rail. I told them I would give it a try, and I've been doing it for 4 years now. I have an excellent fleet manager who gets me home on time every month. No more fighting.

If a company treats you badly, I can't see giving them any kind of notice. That's like giving them an open invitation to leave you stranded out in the boonies somewhere a long way from home.
