AFETT - Association for FAIR and ETHICAL Treatment of Truck Drivers

I'm building the website as we speak, letters will be launched by next week. I am looking for support from the general public with input and information, maybe some volunteers if you are a good writer, we will need press releases and letters to various government agencies and i want to collaborate the sending of said messages within 1-2 weeks time.

There is tons of good information on here, guys, drivers are much more intelligent than we are given credit for, we're worth more than we're paid, and our lives are important. Why should we risk our lives because people (The general public) are uneducated? I wonder if CARB is even aware of the fact that we sleep in our trucks.. They probably think we get hotels every night.

The problem with all this information? It's not getting to the right people, that's what AFETT is for.

I'm going after Idle Laws, Labor Laws, and safety issues as well as general driver mistreatment by companies. I'm looking for, like i said, general support from my friends and fellow drivers here.. And possibly some legal professionals. Not going to charge any membership fee's, but it might come to that.. Things like this cost money, but I'm not worried about it at this current time.

I may eventually set-up a paypal for donations, and give out shirts and hats or something just to help fund some of the stuff i intend on doing. Honestly, I'm tired of talking about doing something, I want to actually do something.

Hourly workers have OSHA, consider this the OSHA for truckers.

I am not trying to replace the OOIDA here, but the more power we have the better and i believe there are far more issues to deal with here than what the OOIDA is dealing with. We need to be organized, and work together for a common goal.

It is important, more now than ever, that we stand together. Enough is enough. I want to educate people about what we deal with on a daily basis and how it can be made better, not just the powers that be, but the general public as well. I am not implying that we're going to get instant raises, or be able to run the country without answering to any type of authority, but the rules need to be changed a bit and it's never going to happen unless someone shows these people the error of their ways.

It's going to take work. Hard work, and lot's of it. But I know that if we organize we can get the ball rolling.. I'm not wasting my time for nothing here.

Comments or suggestions are welcome, try to keep them positive, and if not positive then at least make them constructive so that we can hash out the details in an open discussion. If you have specific issues that you want lobbied for change I want to hear them, if you are willing to spend a little bit of time during the week or weekend and help out please let me know.

If we have to make trucking a skilled trade and put these CDL mills out of business to get what we're after, then so be it. There are alot more of us than there are of them. I am not proposing a strike, i'm not proposing anything illegal.. This needs to be legal, organized, and thought out. I wouldn't have a problem with meeting somewhere though, with the media present so that they can, for once, hear our side of the story.

    I'll be posting updates soon.

Let's stop talking about doing something and actually do it.

PM me for my # if I can help. I'm new to trucking just comming up on one year. I have a vast background in other industries. I see a lot of abuse and gross unfairness. I think I can be a big help. Plus I need to stir up a little trouble every now and then just to keep sane and amused.:biggrin_25517:
