Appease the gods with cat treats. So glad we dont have stairs like that in our home. Goober and JB would be requiring more treats

Dad had always taught me to dress down when going to a car dealer to find a less slimy sales person. After dad had passed, got a call from mom that she wanted to buy a new car. So I hopped in the pickup without a shower or change of cloths after doing some dirt work around the house. This was transition from '88 to '89 model year.
Pickup was a '66 that had obvious damage from being rear ended, so a 20 year old beater at the time. Picked her up at a cafe near the dealer and we went to browse the lot. Parked the old beast right front and center by where the vultures were hovering. One actually stepped up to ask if he could show us something pointing toward the used car side. I looked up and recognized a different salesperson walking out the door, he motioned to go along with the kid. The other sales person walked up after a bit and asked how things were going. I told him O.K. but the new kid forgot to actually wait for an answer on what we were looking for. He laughed and proclaimed "rookie maneuver" loud enough for the kid to hear. Then he said he thought he remembered me buying a car from him at another dealer. Let him know that would be the trade in if we bought something. So he asked what we wanted to check out. Let him know that mom wanted to check out the new T-bird. He excused himself to go grab a golf cart and asked the kid to escort us back toward the building.
New sales guy took us out back to the unprepared cars. And said to brows all we wanted.... Kid was beside himself. Mom picked out one she liked, so asked the sales man (not the boy) if he had a demonstrator with that drive line in it for a test drive. Mom Liked it so we went in to negotiations.
Sales manager came in to make the big pitch on price and loan and interest rates. Sales guy was having a hard time to keep from laughing. I told the sales manager that we did not want the demonstrator and that we wanted the one out back and let him know the VIN. He split for a bit and came back with a higher number and more interest % -- I laughed at him.
Salesman stepped up and asked me "Same terms as last time.... Cash deposit and be back with a cashiers check on Monday when you take delivery?" Manager was floored. Of course I had to ask if they could prep that day, would take AmEx and the balance in cash. Price came down pretty quick at that point.Cattleman84, WesternPlains, Dale thompson and 6 others Thank this. -
Only showing 86 this afternoon, down 10 degrees from yesterday. Kinda surprised that we had a slight cloud burst at sundown last night.
Was dew on the roof this morning when I climbed up to coat another section.WesternPlains, Dave_in_AZ, LoSt_AgAiN and 2 others Thank this. -
