    It is possible.

You could find an O/O that has his own authority and stays local and will let you go to work with him everyday and teach you to drive a truck. You probably won't get paid much or at all. But, it would satisfy your two requirements: you don't have to go to school or hire on with a long-haul company staying out weeks at a time.

What's the most recent scoop guys on good starter trucking companies in the Fort Worth area. I recently got my CDL through C1 Trucking School of Fort Worth. I would prefer a company that is local and gets you home on the weekend, but I know with the economy the way it is, it's tuff to get that wish. I have a two month old daughter, otherwise I'd love to do OTR.

Might check with Averett. Friend said they were hiring in Grand Prairie I think.

Thanks for looking out! I checked with them and it looks like they are only hiring experienced. Got any other companies you'd like to recommend?:biggrin_255:

Thank you RUS7! The daughter is a real angel. I've been checking out literally everywhere for a good starter trucking company. I was lined up with Texas Workforce Commission to work with Raider Express and that ended up falling through the cracks. According to TWC they no longer cooperate with Raider Express. I was told by my counselor to contact Raider Express and see if they will hire me directly. I've called them twice leaving voicemails and no word back. I'm almost to the point where I might have to go with one of the "starter companies.":biggrin_25511: At least to get myself one year of experience and get something local hopefully.

I am not sure how you are searching on TWC-but I have noticed that there are a ton of trucking jobs up that way. Being since we are in Texas- you might consider getting on with someone that will take in to Flatbed work. Go over to the Pilot and get some of the recruiting books and look through those. Also, Mavrick in Ar is looking to hire students http://www.drivemaverick.com/

    GrimmReaper451 Thanks this.

I checked out Maverick and they require 6 months of experience. I will be checking out the pilot books in a little bit.

I'm joining the ranks of those hunting for another job as the money I had saved during the boom has finally ran out after almost a year.
Been around the patch most of my entire life and after a short stretch in oilfield trucking back in the early 80's I got back in it 3 years ago and it was nice while it lasted.
