Got thinking after I posted about the tandems. I somewhat recall doing it now. Some places it's so automatic to do it that you don't think about doing it

I started making it a habit years ago, understanding that it makes for a smoother transition for a jack or forklift operator, the trailer is more stable and doesn't bounce as much when entering or exiting on the ramp or dockplate. And I've always felt it makes backing in easier, unless circumstances called for "shortening up" the trailer on occasion. Trailer tail swing has always made me nervous, I've never gotten over it personally.Rugerfan, classic_150 and ZVar Thank this.

Just delivered there again yesterday. Shipper was 24 hrs late loading the trailer cause they didn't have one of the products. Luckily I was home on a reset and not sitting in the truck. When I asked work if they got the appointment time changed, they said "it doesn't look like it, just get it there as fast as you can"
I was 5 hours late (got there at 1020am PST). Guard came back after a few minutes with my buzzard said I got lucky, they were about to leave.
Only truck at the docks and wasn't backed up more than 2 mins and they started working on me. Took them 28 mins and I was done. Love that place lolallniter, TheLoadOut and JReding Thank this. -
I'm on vacation this week, one of my fellow drivers is covering me. Say hi next time you're in. Look for the Wilson Autocar yard goat.tscottme and Hawkeye212 Thank this.

I haven't been there and I have no problem with the rules, generally speaking, but sliding tandems before you line up at a door is asking for trouble. You have so much less maneuverability. I slide, and then slide back, at the door. I am willing to break this rule for my own safety until screamed at. Then I will scream back.

Sliding tandems may be a problem at some places, if you have to do tight maneuvers and aren't worried about tail swing. However, at the Sumner Depot there's ample room even after sliding before proceeding to your door. Decent drivers could even set themselves for a near straightline back if they wanted. And the doors are relatively close to each other. There have been several tail swing accidents there, especially in the early morning when it's still dark out.

Wow, that place is a dream! The state of Pennsylvania needs to take notes.

I'll be there in the morning again! It's seriously my favorite load to get.
Only thing I don't like about it is guessing if the truck stop down the road is full or not. It would be no big deal if there were other options in the area but there's not. Plus it's a tight back. I'm not worried about myself, it's others that scare me lol.
So to play it safe, I usually stay at the TA in North Bend 40 miles awayJReding Thanks this.
