i was glad being a coward at the truck stops or rest areas, or some other parking area, and lived another day, and didn't have any crashes.

    then to be a what..??

    dead hero...??

    or charged in an accident???

caused the freight to be damaged and a claim..??

NEVER LET any jackwad, trucker......push you, or embarrass you, or cajole you, into making a decision on how, YOU SHOULD BE DRIVING YOUR TRUCK.....SAFELY UNDER ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS

    NOT EVEN DISPATCHERS......!!!!!!!

this is how i reached retirement after 48 years......

    worked for me...!!!!!!!

A number of carriers don't have their drivers chain up. It leads to worker's comp claims and accidents. Of course, any company that runs frequently in northern states probably has no choice but to chain up, but for that reason I'm glad I live and work on the west coast. I grew up in the Midwest and always owned a 4 wheel drive. Now I own them for hunting and fishing, so I don't need them just to get around in the winter. If I want to play in the snow, it's a 3 hour drive to Lake Tahoe and the Sierras.

Apologies I didn’t mean it like that; I was speaking for myself, I view it as a challenge I’d at least like to try once instead of not even attempting to drive when it’s snow on the roads

My starter company when I was OTR was FFE and they required you carried them but if you used them and had an accident you were immediately fired so I never used them there except once getting over Donner Pass. Up here in Alaska its just a daily routine half the year

FFE still prefers you to park and not chain. 2 winters ago when they shutdown I 40 in Az and NM due to the bad snow storm they rerouted me down to I 10.

Not true. CA modified max allows for singles on each outside drive and drag on both sides on trailer, trailercan be staggered.

If you’re not comfortable chaining then don’t do it. There’s no harm in that. But if you’re planning on running out west then you need the required chains and you should know how to install them.

And pay attention to the weather. If you’re in Spokane on the front edge of a big storm do you want to sit for 2 days or do you want to chain and get over Lookout and go on about your business?

Then dispatch calls every 20 minutes wanting to know when you plan on rolling.
