There’s a lot of info on here about tire ware and different types, but mostly for the OTR drivers. What are you dump truck guys getting the most ware out of on drive tires 11/24.5. I have Yokohama 517 and they seem to be wareing a lot quicker, but maybe it’s normal. Of course there’s the occasional spike in the tire..

I like a logger lug pattern. I had a set of Yoko LY053's that I got about 4 years out of, and that was with me driving it too. I was pretty #### impressed with that, and now my tire dealer has claimed he can't get his hands on any for over a year now.

I run double bottom dumps and use Chinese tires on the drives. They last anywhere from a year to year and half.

I have been running local dump trucks 31 years so if I was a collage professor I would charge you for this info and make you finance it for 20 years, but after sharing this many times with friends in the business nobody has the balls to stay with this program.
I run the Yokohama LY053 drive tire in 16 ply it has 31/32 tread depth the design stops stone drilling and I get about 45,000 miles with one rotation front to rear, my new trucks are ordered with Michelin XDY I get about 60,000 out these but the cost per mile is higher in the end but I get no cost penalty on a new truck.
for the steer Axel and all trailers I run the MY507 16 py all position with 26/32 tread depth the buff radius is the same so they match perfect for recapping and I get as many as 3 retreads on these casings. When Capping drives i go with the deepest tread available like the Lug Logger on the drive and a deep straight rib on the trailers I never buy somebody old standard casing if I don't have a trailer cap thats mine I buy new I just had two 9 year old casing blow out after 3 caps and last capping was 5 years ago I got my moneys worth out of those, First cap is always to drive tread the 2nd can go either drive or rib and 3rd always goes rib so for those 2 to go 9 years I know they got 1 drive cap and 2 rib caps because trailer tires last much longer but milage is hard track.
Now I run short haul about 45,000 miles a year in San Diego and we don't run over 63 mph and usually slower as the 053 wear out I'm sure they are not good in snow and we don't work in the rain as there is a 10,000 $ fine for tracking mud on to the street that goes to the contractor.
Also the MY507 has just been discontinued and the 504 C is the replacement I have not used them yet but the rep tells me the capping radius is the same but I get only 24/32 tread depth and I'm not happy about that.
When I ran regular tires casings that were not designed for rough service I got only 25,000 miles and was lucky to get a cap that wore to the limit plus the wear was uneven do to different casings and different buff radius one thing that really seems to kill a standard casing is running over curbs and tread cleaners. You cannot run the 16ply rough service next to a 14ply standard casing as the tire height will not come close to being equal.
Your milage may vary and this may not work for your operation.

i know i will get some heat on this.....

i run 315 22s in the front...chinese. only get about 8 months out of them. rears i run recapped 11r24s which also get about 8 months to a year. now, with that being said....my truck is all local..never go more than 30 miles out. also, its allways offroad in construction sites. i refuse to pay for new american tires when they go through this many hazards daily. im super cautious but somethings just can not be controlled. i run a small 12 yard dump truck..never over 50k in weight
