Pick a Mega......get at least a year under your belt without hitting anything......learn the ropes....move on. That's how ya' do it!
Chinatown and MericanMade Thank this. -
Dockbumper are you still at DHT? What Terminal are you at? I applied for the Nogales Terminal. I got approved / prehire for them yesterday. Worried the the cpm is drastically lower then most of the mega carriers, I have talked to.
Concerned about the CPM being so low to start out.

Yes I am. Currently I am running 3500-3800 HUB miles per week. That translates to about 3100-3400 paid miles. The Pay is lower than some megas, but, length of haul, the lanes we run, and the monthly mileage bonus makes up for the lower pay FOR ME. Your preferences may be different than mine. I stay out and run my ### off for 10-11 weeks at a time, then take 12-14 days off. Pretty much guarantees me the $.06 per mile bonus for 2 out of every 3 months. There is also a $.02 safety bonus available as well. Works for me. Your mileage may vary. Good lucklilredexpress Thanks this. -
So the recruiter told me I could do a 14 out and 3 days at home. If I did that I might have a hard time hitting the performance bonuses to make up for the regular rate so I might have a hard time making it ( decent weekly net )
How are the trainers at DHT? Any horror stories?

I have no knowledge of their training program. I signed on as an experienced driver. It is going to be tough to make decent paychecks as a rookie doing a 2 week on 3 day off schedule. You are going to be inefficient and you will need to acquire trip planning and clock management skills. Those both take time. I would recommend staying out for 4-6 weeks at a stretch, then take a week off. One benefit of DHT is their hometime policy. 1 1/2 days off for each week out. Most companies give you 1. Many will require you to turn in your truck if you take more than 4 days at a time. Like I said in my previous post. DHT checks a lot of boxes for my style and preferences. I have said it before. This IS NOT a one size fits all business. I suggest wherever you go........stay for ONE FULL YEAR. DO NOT HIT ANYTHING. PICK UP AND DELIVER ON TIME. Your first year solo will be your BIGGEST training experience. Good luck.lilredexpress Thanks this.
